Performance degradation and damage model of rice husk ash concrete under dry–wet cycles of sulfate environment

Tests were carried out on the properties of Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) by partially or completely replacing Silica Fume (SF) by Low-temperature Rice Husk Ash (L-RHA) .The results show that the activity and adsorptive capacity of L-RHA is greater than SF; The compressive strength of UHPC is increased by both the filling effect and the secondary hydration effect for L-RHA, but only by the filling effect for SF. However, more than 10% dosage of L-RHA or SF reduces the early compressive strength of UHPC. The compressive strength of UHPC with two blends of L-RHA and SF with less than 10% dosage of each ingredient is higher than the one with only a blend of ingredient, L-RHA or SF.

Research on Ultra-High Performance Concrete with Rice Husk Ash

In this paper, a kind of RHA-paraffin phase change material was prepared, and the SEM was used for observing its internal morphologies, DSC analysis was carried out for detecting its temperature and enthalpy of phase transition. The results showed that rice husk ash have a greater absorption rate for paraffin; a large number of pores of the RHA were filled by paraffin in the RHA-paraffin phase change material, and the absorption rate can reach 53.5%.

Preparation of RHA-Paraffin Phase Change Materials

The nano-structure of rice husk ash burned at 600℃ was investigated by using SEM and TEM. The results show that the rice husk ash contains some nano-particles of silica (SiO2) with a size of -50 nm, which stick loosely each other. Be-sides the micron-cellular pores, there are many nano-sized interstitial pores below 50 nm formed by the packing of the nano-particles. The rice husk ash possesses great specif ic surf ace and highly " superpozzolan" activity due to the existence of the nano-particles of silica and the nano-sized pores. It is indicated that the pozzolanic activity of the rice husk ash is higher than that of pelletized silica fume, resulting to increase of strength for ordinary concrete and high strength concrete. The compressive strength of concrete with 10% - 20% RHA to replace cement is increased by 10 MPa.
