Amyloid-beta peptides stimulate the expression of the p75(NTR) neurotrophin receptor in SHSY5Y human neuroblastoma cells and AD transgenic mice.
Balu Chakravarthy,Chantal Gaudet,Michel Ménard,Trevor Atkinson,Leslie Brown,Frank M. LaFerla,Ubaldo Armato,James F. Whitfield +7 more
TL;DR: It appears that it could be the accumulating Abeta(1-42) that increases or at least prevents the downregulation of p75 (NTR) receptors in key parts of AD brains.

Evidence that a synthetic amyloid-ß oligomer-binding peptide (ABP) targets amyloid-ß deposits in transgenic mouse brain and human Alzheimer’s disease brain
Balu Chakravarthy,Shingo Ito,Trevor Atkinson,Chantal Gaudet,Michel Ménard,Leslie Brown,James F. Whitfield +6 more
TL;DR: It is shown that ABP also recognizes and binds Aβ1-42 aggregates in sections of cortices and hippocampi from brains of AD transgenic mice and human AD patients, suggesting that it might be a potential AD therapeutic.

Changes in the expression of somatostatin 3 receptor (SSTR3) and p75NTR in the hippocampal primary cilia of Alzheimer's disease transgenic mice
Balu Chakravarthy,Chantal Gaudet,Michel Ménard,Leslie Brown,Trevor Atkinson,Ubaldo Armato,Shingo Ito,James F. Whitfield +7 more
TL;DR: In PDAPP/TRE mice, it is reported that acute infusions of synthetic human apoE particles increase ISFAs levels and decrease As clearance in a manner that depends on the isoform of apOE infused.

Hippocampal membrane-associated p75NTR levels are increased in Alzheimer's disease.
Balu Chakravarthy,Michel Ménard,Shingo Ito,Chantal Gaudet,Ilaria Pierpaola Dal Prà,Ubaldo Armato,James F. Whitfield +6 more
TL;DR: Using polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies against the p75(NTR) receptor's intra- and extracellular domains, it is shown that the mean level of membrane-associated p75-NTR in the hippocampus is significantly higher in human AD brains than in identical samples of hippocampal formation in age-matched non-AD human brains.
Involvement of Insulin-Like Growth Factor 1 Receptor Signaling in the Amyloid-β Peptide Oligomers-Induced p75 Neurotrophin Receptor Protein Expression in Mouse Hippocampus
Shingo Ito,Michel Ménard,Trevor Atkinson,Chantal Gaudet,Leslie Brown,James F. Whitfield,Balu Chakravarthy +6 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided that the Aβ1-42 oligomers known as ADDLs (Aβ-derived diffusible ligands) induce p75NTR protein expression through insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF-1R) phosphorylation in SH-SY5Y human neuroblastoma cells.
