SARS-CoV-2 spike protein induces IL-18-mediated cardiopulmonary inflammation via reduced mitophagy
Shuxin Liang,Changlei Bao,Zichao Yang,Shiyun Liu,Yanan Sun,Weitao Cao,Ting Wang,Tae-Hwi Schwantes-An,John S. Choy,Samisubbu R. Naidu,Ang Luo,Wen-Jin Yin,Stephen M. Black,Jian Wang,Pixin Ran,Ankit A. Desai,Haiyang Tang +16 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors identified IL-18 among 19 cytokines to stratify mortality and hospitalization burden in patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in patients with SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Gut Microbial Metabolite Trimethylamine N-Oxide Aggravates Pulmonary Hypertension.
Yuhang Huang,Fanjie Lin,Ruidi Tang,Changlei Bao,Qing Zhou,Kai Fa Ye,Yi Shen,Chunli Liu,Cheng Hong,Kai-Chien Yang,Haiyang Tang,Jian Wang,Wenju Lu,Tao Wang +13 more
TL;DR: This study demonstrates that T MAO is increased in severe PH, and the reduction of TMAO decreases pulmonary vascular muscularization and alleviates PH via suppressing the macrophage production of chemokines and cytokines.

SARS-CoV-2 spike protein receptor-binding domain perturbates intracellular calcium homeostasis and impairs pulmonary vascular endothelial cells
Kai-Chien Yang,Shiyun Liu,Han Yan,Wenju Lu,Haixia Chen,Changlei Bao,Huazhuo Feng,Jing Liao,Shuxin Liang,Li Xu,Haiyang Tang,Jason X.-J. Yuan,Nanshan Zhong,Jian Wang +13 more
TL;DR: Findings provide compelling evidence that S-RBD could induce persistent pulmonary vascular endothelial damage by binding to ACE2 and triggering [Ca^2+]_i through upregulation of Piezo1 and Orai1 and Targeted inhibition of ACE2-Piezo1/SOCC-[Ca^1+]-i axis proves a powerful strategy to treat S- RBD-induced pulmonary vascular diseases.

Microbiome and metabolome dysbiosis of the gut-lung axis in pulmonary hypertension.
Jiyuan Chen,Dansha Zhou,Jinrui Miao,Chenting Zhang,Xiang Li,Huazhuo Feng,Yue Xing,Zizhou Zhang,Changlei Bao,Ziying Lin,Yuqin Chen,Jason X.-J. Yuan,Dejun Sun,Kai-Chien Yang,Jian Wang +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors established a left pulmonary artery ligation (LPAL)-induced pulmonary hypertension (PH) rat model and investigated the association between gut microbiota composition and host metabolome signatures (in both gut and lung tissues) by using multiomics and correlation analysis.

Artemisinin and Its Derivate Alleviate Pulmonary Hypertension and Vasoconstriction in Rodent Models
Changlei Bao,Qian He,Hui Wang,Yanan Sun,Yahang Xu,Yan Pan,Yadan Hu,Shichuang Zheng,Shuxin Liang,Ang Luo,Tanzilan Nahar,Jiwang Chen,Haiyang Tang,Ying Han +13 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that treatment with ARS or DHA can inhibit PA vasoconstriction, PASMC proliferation and migration, and vascular remodeling, as well as improve PA endothelium-dependent relaxation, and eventually attenuate the development and progression of PH.
