TL;DR: In this article, the effect of strong electrical fields on a beam of protons passing through a laser irradiated thin foil has been investigated, showing that the energy distribution function of the protons propagating along the surface normal changes in a pronounced way, exhibiting a gap in the spectrum accompanied by up to two local maxima.

TL;DR: In this paper , a new method for measuring slice energy spread at a lower beam energy ( ∼ 20 MeV) is proposed and demonstrated at the PhotoInjector Test facility at DESY Zeuthen (PITZ), and the results for 250 pC and 500 pC are much lower than those measured at high energy injectors.
