Experience in setting up a comprehensive journal processing system based on the TeX typesetting system with the CEDRAM workflow is described, following the example of the Archivum Mathematicum journal. The system automates the preparation of issues and simultaneously generates the materials needed for the Czech Digital Mathematics Library project (DML-CZ). The second part of the article describes the process of transformation of archival born-digital articles into a DML-CZ-suitable format.

Automated Processing of TeX-Typeset Articles for a Digital Library

The purpose of this paper is to show that it is possible to translate almost every mathematical formula from LaTeX syntax to XML. The document you are reading contains a great number of formulas extracted from the TeX book, the LaTeX companion, the MathML recommendation, and translated into XML by Tralics; it is available in Pdf or HTML version. The HTML version was produced using a very simple style sheet; mathematics are left unchanged, and you need a MathML-aware browser, like Firefox, or adequate plugins, and a set of fonts for the symbols or operators. The Pdf version was obtained by use of xmltex (a package by D. Carlisle that makes TeX an XML interpreter), and a great number of modifications to the file mathml2.xmt (that interprets elements in the MathML namespace). All files needed to produce this document are part of the Tralics bundle (version 2.10 or more).

Classification of Multilingual Mathematical Papers in DML-CZ

We describe CEDRICS, a general purpose system for automated journal production entirely based on a LATEX input format. We show how the very basic ideas that initiated the whole effort turned into an efficient system because of the ability of LATEX markup to parametrise simultaneously and without compromise high typographical quality for the PDF output as well as accurate XML metadata with (presentation) MathML formulas. This was made possible by the availability of two entirely independent L A TEX source processors with specific focus but full TEX-macro language support: PdfL A TEX by Han The ´ Thanh, and Tralics by Jose Grimm.

CEDRICS: When CEDRAM Meets Tralics

The quality of digital mathematical library depends on the
formats and quality of data it offers. We show several
enhancements of (meta)data of the Czech Digital Mathematics
Library DML-CZ. We discuss possible minimalist modification of
regular LaTeX documents that would simplify generating basic
metadata that describes the article in an XML/MathML format. We
also show a proof of concept of a method that enables us to
include LaTeX source code of mathematical expressions into
pdfTeX-generated PDFs in such a way that the reader can Copy &
Paste the code from his PDF viewer. This code, hidden in the
PDF file, can also be used for LaTeX math indexing.

Data Enhancements in a Digital Mathematical Library

We present the recent development of a production system for mathematical serials with both an electronic and paper version. The challenges were many: (i) no house style layout should be imposed, as the journals come from different publishing houses and may have very different typographical options; (ii) produce screen-optimised and printer-friendly output at once; (iii) avoid any duplication of information so that every aspect of the publications are always in sync (Web site metadata, table of contents. . . ), thus (iv) generate on the fly article's page numbers, XML metadata at the published volume level from one master LATEX source file tree. Using available technology (pdflatex, pdfpages.sty and \write18), the proposed solution to these problems appeared amazingly simple and easy to use. However, we'll show that there is quite some room left for improvement.
