Association between markers of emphysema and more severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Piera Boschetto,Quintavalle S,E. Zeni,S Leprotti,Potena A,Licia Ballerin,Alberto Papi,G Palladini,Maurizio Luisetti,Laura Annovazzi,Paolo Iadarola,E. De Rosa,Leonardo M. Fabbri,Ce Mapp +13 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that COPD associated with HRCT confirmed emphysema is characterised by more severe lung function impairment, more intense airway inflammation and, possibly, more serious systemic dysfunction than COPD not associated withHRCT confirmed eosinophils.

Persistent asthma due to isocyanates. A follow-up study of subjects with occupational asthma due to toluene diisocyanate (TDI).
TL;DR: Thirty-five subjects with occupational asthma due to toluene diisocyanate (TDI) exposure were examined and there were no significant differences between subjects who recovered and those who did not with regard to age, smoking habits, atopy, duration of exposure to isocyanates, duration of symptoms, baseline FEV1 (% pred), and baseline airway responsiveness to methacholine.

Interleukin-13 and -4 expression in the central airways of smokers with chronic bronchitis
Deborah Miotto,Mp Ruggieri,Piera Boschetto,Giorgio Cavallesco,Alberto Papi,Ilaria Bononi,C. Piola,B. Murer,Leonardo M. Fabbri,Ce Mapp +9 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that T‐helper‐2 and ‐1 protein expression is present in the central airways of smokers and interleukin‐4 and ‑13 could contribute to mucus hypersecretion in chronic bronchitis.

Predominant emphysema phenotype in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients
Piera Boschetto,Massimo Miniati,Deborah Miotto,Fausto Braccioni,E. De Rosa,Ilaria Bononi,Alberto Papi,Marina Saetta,Leonardo M. Fabbri,Ce Mapp +9 more
TL;DR: Patients with fixed airflow limitation are grouped under the heading of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and investigated whether COPD patients have distinct functional, radiological and sputum cells characteristics depending on the presence or absence of emphysema.

Predictive value of airways hyperresponsiveness and circulating IgE for identifying types of responses to toluene diisocyanate inhalation challenge.
M. H. Karol,D. J. Tollerud,T. P. Campbell,Leonardo M. Fabbri,Piero Maestrelli,Marina Saetta,Ce Mapp +6 more
TL;DR: Predictive factors for response to inhalation challenge with TDI, including AR positivity did not predict the time of onset of TDI response, and AR+ was strongly associated with a positive TDI challenge.
