Effect of Abdominal Obesity on Insulin Resistance and the Components of the Metabolic Syndrome: Evidence Supporting Obesity as the Central Feature
Çavlan Türkoğlu,Belgin Süsleyici Duman,Demet Günay,Penbe Cagatay,Remzi Özcan,A. Sevim Büyükdevrim +5 more
TL;DR: Abdominal adiposity appears to have a pivotal role in the development of insulin resistance syndrome, and a rise in fasting as well as 30-min insulin secretion increases as abdominal body fat (obesity) increases.

The interrelationship between insulin secretion and action in type 2 diabetes mellitus with different degrees of obesity: evidence supporting central obesity.
B Susleyici Duman,Çavlan Türkoğlu,Demet Günay,Penbe Cagatay,Cemsid Demiroglu,A. Sevim Büyükdevrim +5 more
TL;DR: Hyperglycemia-hyperinsulinemia observed in obese and T2DM patients might be due, in part, to increased capacity of insulin secretion, and to exaggerated hepatic glucose production because of hepatic insulin resistance, respectively.

Left versus bi-atrial intraoperative saline-irrigated radiofrequency modified maze procedure for atrial fibrillation.
Mustafa Güden,Belhhan Akpinar,Baris Caynak,Çavlan Türkoğlu,Zeki Ozyedek,Ilhan Sanisoglu,Ertan Sagbas,Saide Aytekin,Seher Deniz Öztekin +8 more
TL;DR: Saline irrigated radiofrequency modified maze procedure was performed safely and efficiently in terms of restoring sinus rhythm and the current policy is to adopt the bi-atrial approach in patients with a history of atrial flutter and where the right atrium has to be opened.

Lipoprotein lipase gene polymorphism and lipid profile in coronary artery disease.
Belgin Süsleyici Duman,Çavlan Türkoğlu,Belhhan Akpinar,Mustafa Güden,Anastassiia Vertii,Esranur Dak,Penbe Cagatay,Demet Günay,A. Sevim Büyükdevrim +8 more
TL;DR: There was a difference in the distribution of LPL-PvuII genotypes between the healthy subjects and the patients with CAD, and lipid levels were found to be associated with fasting total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels.

Genetic variations of the apolipoprotein B gene in Turkish patients with coronary artery disease.
Belgin Süsleyici Duman,Çavlan Türkoğlu,Belhhan Akpinar,Mustafa Güden,Anastassiia Vertii,Penbe Cagatay,Demet Günay,A. Sevim Büyükdevrim +7 more
TL;DR: Apo B EcoRI genotypes were not found as risk factors for CAD, whereas XbaI TT genotype was detected to prevent against CAD in the study group, and no significant differences in lipid variables were determined for theXbaI polymorphisms in the patients with CAD.
