TL;DR: While many of the compounds tested displayed poor pharmacokinetics, compound 48 was found to be more potent than terazosin in both a rat model of prostate tone and a dog model of intra-urethral pressure without significantly affecting blood pressure.

TL;DR: In this article, the subject invention provides a method of treating benign prostatic hyperplasia or inhibiting contraction of a prostate tissue in a subject in need thereof which comprises administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of an α1C antagonist which binds to a human α 1C adrenergic receptor with a binding affinity greater than 50-fold higher than the binding affinity with which the α 1c antagonist binds to human α1b adrenergic receptors, provided that the α1c antagonist is not 2,6-Dimethyl-4-(4-nitrophen

TL;DR: In vivo, this compound effectively blocked the phenylephrine-stimulated increase in intraurethral pressure (IUP) in mongrel dogs, at doses which did not significantly affect the arterial pressure (diastolic blood pressure, DBP), with a DBP Kb/IUP Kb ratio of 16.5%.

Douglas A. Craig,Carlos Forray,Charles Gluchowski,Theresa Branchek +3 more
- 30 May 1996
TL;DR: In this paper, a method for treating urinary incontinence in a subject which comprises administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of an.alpha.1C selective agonist which activates a human.α.1B adrenoceptor at least ten-fold more than it activates human α.
