Mining and Local Corruption in Africa

Autocratic Elections: Stabilizing Tool or Force for Change?
TL;DR: This article showed that elections increase the short-term probability of regime failure in 259 autocratic regimes from 1946 to 2008, and that these temporal effect patterns are present for both executive and legislative elections, and they are robust to using different measures, control variable strategies, and estimation techniques.
The Autocratic Welfare State: Resource distribution, credible commitments and political survival
TL;DR: This article argued that autocratic regimes are no less likely than democracies to adopt old-age pensions, although autocratic programs are less universal in their coverage than those of democracies, and they also argued that they are less likely to adopt universal health care.
