Neuronal and Glia-Related Biomarkers in Cerebrospinal Fluid of Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke
Clara Hjalmarsson,Maria Bjerke,Björn Andersson,Kaj Blennow,Henrik Zetterberg,N. David Åberg,Bob Olsson,Carl Eckerström,Lena Bokemark,Anders Wallin +9 more
- 19 May 2014
TL;DR: Several CSF biomarkers increase in AIS, and they correlate to clinical stroke severity, however, only NFL was found to be a marker of degree of WML.

TL;DR: An automated classifier based on clinical, imaging and APOE ε4 data can identify the presence of amyloid pathology with a moderate level of accuracy and could be used in clinical trials to pre-screen subjects for anti-amyloid therapies.

Subjective Cognitive Impairment Is a Predominantly Benign Condition in Memory Clinic Patients Followed for 6 Years: The Gothenburg-Oslo MCI Study.
Erik Hessen,Marie Eckerström,Arto Nordlund,Ina S. Almdahl,Jacob Stålhammar,Maria Bjerke,Carl Eckerström,Mattias Göthlin,Tormod Fladby,Ivar Reinvang,Anders Wallin +10 more
TL;DR: Cognitive stability for 86% of the cohort suggests that SCI is predominantly a benign condition with regard to neuropathology, and regression analysis revealed that low levels of Aβ42 at baseline and memory decline during the first 2 years predicted dementia.
High white matter lesion load is associated with hippocampal atrophy in mild cognitive impairment.
Carl Eckerström,Erik Olsson,Niklas Klasson,Maria Bjerke,Mattias Göthlin,Michael Jonsson,Sindre Rolstad,Helge Malmgren,Anders Wallin,Åke Edman +9 more
TL;DR: Hippocampal volume was associated with WML volume only in the high WML quartile, suggesting that the W ML volume must reach a threshold before hippocampal atrophy is seen.

White Matter Lesion Assessment in Patients with Cognitive Impairment and Healthy Controls: Reliability Comparisons between Visual Rating, a Manual, and an Automatic Volumetrical MRI Method—The Gothenburg MCI Study
Erik Olsson,Niklas Klasson,Josef Berge,Carl Eckerström,Åke Edman,Helge Malmgren,Anders Wallin +6 more
TL;DR: Unreliability in the assessment of patients with low WML with manual volumetry may mainly be due to intensity variation in the FLAIR sequence used; hence, intensity standardization and normalization methods must be used for more accurate assessments.
