Removal of heavy-metal pollutants by white rot fungi: A mini review

Animal meat is one of the major, high-quality protein sources in human food. The rapid economic development is accompanied by increasing demand for meat, which puts pressure on the global meat supply but also gives room for the development of the meat substitute market. Edible mushrooms are high in protein, rich in nutrients, and do not require large amounts of land for cultivation, making them an ideal raw material for the production of meat analogues. This paper introduces the nutritional properties of edible mushrooms from 4 perspectives: nutrients, active ingredients, allergens and flavor-presenting substances, and summarizes their unique nutritional advantages by comparing them with animal meat and plant-based meat analogue, and finally analyzes the industrialization development situation of edible mushroom protein meat analogues in China and abroad. In conclusion, edible mushrooms are very suitable for making meat analogues and are expected to become another major raw material after beans, cereals and other plant-based meat raw materials. The edible mushroom industry will have a promising future. 

A review on nutritional advantages of edible mushrooms and its industrialization development situation in protein meat analogues

The field of biotechnology presents us with a great chance to use many organisms, such as mushrooms, to find suitable solutions for issues that include the accumulation of agro-wastes in the environment. The green biotechnology of mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus L.) includes the myco-remediation of polluted soil and water as well as bio-fermentation. The circular economy approach could be effectively achieved by using oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus L.), of which the substrate of their cultivation is considered as a vital source for producing biofertilizers, animal feeds, bioenergy, and bio-remediators. Spent mushroom substrate is also considered a crucial source for many applications, including the production of enzymes (e.g., manganese peroxidase, laccase, and lignin peroxidase) and bioethanol. The sustainable management of agro-industrial wastes (e.g., plant-based foods, animal-based foods, and non-food industries) could reduce, reuse and recycle using oyster mushrooms. This review aims to focus on the biotechnological applications of the oyster mushroom (P. ostreatus L.) concerning the field of the myco-remediation of pollutants and the bio-fermentation of agro-industrial wastes as a sustainable approach to environmental protection. This study can open new windows onto the green synthesis of metal-nanoparticles, such as nano-silver, nano-TiO2 and nano-ZnO. More investigations are needed concerning the new biotechnological approaches.

Green Biotechnology of Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus L.): A Sustainable Strategy for Myco-Remediation and Bio-Fermentation

Soil contamination by lead, zinc, iron, manganese, and copper is a widespread environmental issue associated with the mining industry. Primary sources include mining activities, production and processing operations, waste disposal and management practices, and atmospheric sediments. Soil contamination and degradation, water pollution impacting aquatic ecosystems, plant absorption leading to agricultural product contamination, health risks associated with exposure to lead, zinc, iron, manganese, and copper, along with effects on fauna and biodiversity, constitute the primary environmental and health impacts of contamination. In this study, diverse sampling and analysis methods, geographic information systems, and remote sensing techniques are investigated for monitoring and assessing soil contamination with these metals. Soil modification techniques, phytoremediation, and other strategies for reduction and modification are considered among the most crucial, alongside health protection and risk management strategies. Finally, the article explores innovative methods and solutions for mineral waste management and remediation, the application of green chemistry and sustainable practices in the mining industry, and the utilization of artificial intelligence for controlling heavy metal ion pollution.

The invention discloses a composite material for treating heavy metal-organic pollution, and a preparation method and application thereof, and relates to the technical field of environmental treatment. The composite material for treating heavy metal-organic pollution comprises a silver phosphate-titanium dioxide composite material and a zero-valent iron composite material, wherein the zero-valentiron composite material is formed by loading zero-valent iron on an adsorption substrate. The preparation method comprises the following steps: carrying out wrapping formation on the silver phosphate-titanium dioxide composite material and the zero-valent iron composite material in a form of layering the substrate. The composite material provided by the invention can be used for simultaneously andefficiently passivating heavy metals and degrading organic matters, can be continuously and stably repaired, and can be applied to a water body or soil remediation process.
