The microstructure and dynamic material properties of Ti–6Al–2Zr–1Mo–1V (TA15) titanium alloy are very sensitive to process parameters, which directly determine the service properties. To explore and understand the deformation behavior and the optimization of the deformation process, a microstructure-evolution model is needed not only to phenomenologically describe the hot deformation process, but also to reflect the interaction between deformation and microstructure evolution and to reveal the deformation mechanism. In this article, we present an experimental investigation of the microstructure-evolution law and the softening mechanism of TA15 deformation in the two-phase region. By using the internal-state-variable method, a set of mechanically based equations that model the evolution of the dislocation density, the recrystallization and the grain size are developed for the TA15 alloy. By integrating the microstructure-evolution model into the DEFORM-3D software package, we predict microstructure evolution during an isothermal, compressive-deformation process, and the model is verified by comparing the experimental results with the calculation. Using the model a simulation and grain-size prediction of the TA15 large-component isothermal forming are carried out, and the results are confirmed experimentally.

ZnO nanoparticles preparation from spent zinc–carbon dry cell batteries: studies on structural, morphological and optical properties

Fe3O4 nanoparticles having size ≤ 10nm were prepared by reverse co-precipitation method. This is a rapid, simple, and cost-effective (only one Fe-salt is used) synthesis route in only one step reaction without applying temperature, surfactants or inert gases as compared with previously published routes. The prepared nano particles were investigated by X-ray (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). These nanoparticles were appraised as an adsorbents for eliminating Pb(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II) from water. The equilibrium data was analyzed by Langmuir, Freundlich, and (D-R) isotherms. Pseudo-second-order, Elovich and intra-particle diffusion models were used to study the kinetics of reaction. Adsorbent cycling was performed to examine its stability and reusability. The results revealed that the adsorption efficiency trend was Pb>Cu>Zn at pH 5.5, 6.5 and 6, respectively and influenced by ionic radius of cations. The maximum suitable mass of adsorbent was 200mg, after which the agglomeration occurred and adsorption efficiency decreased. It is indicated that the adsorption process was well fitted to Langmuir. Also, the adsorption followed the pseudo-second-order-model for Pb(II) and Zn(II), but Elovich for Cu(II). Adsorbent retained about 90% with Pb(II), 40% with Cu(II), and 30% with Zn(II) of its initial sorption efficiency after 3 cycles.

Muography is an imaging technique that can be used to examine the interior structure of large-size objects. The technique is based on measurements of the absorption of cosmic-ray muons passing through the object under study. Muographic imaging was already successfully applied to the discovery of a new void inside the Great Pyramid of Khufu at Giza, Egypt. With the aim of studying the Pyramid of Khafre, the second largest pyramid at Giza, a new muography detector is currently being constructed. In this paper we report on the development of a corresponding new simulation framework of the Great Pyramids and the detector setup. This simulation will serve as a basis to develop the data and image reconstruction algorithms to be used during our future muography campaign in the Pyramid of Khafre, and will allow us to study the relevant experimental conditions at the site.

Simulation Studies of a Novel Muography Detector for the GreatPyramids


 The high mass X-ray binary system 4U 0114+65 was observed by Nustar in October 2019, and by XMM-Newton in August 2015. Here we performed spectral and timing analysis of the Nustar observation, and carry out timing analysis on the XMM-Newton data. We measured the spin period of the neutron star from both observations and found a spin-up rate $\dot{p}$ = 1.54 ± 0.38 × 10−6 s s−1. During the Nustar observation two flares occured, one occured shortly after the start of the observation and the other near the end separated by a long period of low/quiescent- state. The large and sudden flares mostly resulted from accretion of Corotating Interaction Region (CIR) material. A common spectral model to HMXBs, powerlaw with high energy cutoff and absorption at low energy, gave a good fit to both flaring and quiescent states. A flourescent iron line was not required in fitting any of the states. On the other hand, very tentative evidence of Cyclotron Resonant Scattering Feature (CRSF) at ∼17 keV was found during fitting using cyclabs model, however fitting improvement was not significant enough to confirm its detection, plus a very narrow width (<1 keV) was obtained for the line and its first harmonic. Visual inspection of the spectra showed a deficiency of emission near the expected first and second harmonic. Another important feature visually noticed in the spectra is the presence of hard tail above 50 keV. This could be explained by the shocked material bounding the CIR.
