In recent years, the use of drugs-based compounds to inhibit mild steel corrosion has grown significantly. Clonazepam stands out among other drug based compounds employed as potential corrosion inhibitors. This study investigates the experimental and computational properties of clonazepam drug molecule as mild steel corrosion inhibitor in chloride solution using weight loss, thermometric, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, potentiodynamics polarization, surface imaging, Density Functional Theory, and molecular dynamic simulations. The findings demonstrate that as clonazepam drug concentration is increased, the inhibition efficiency increases, reaching a maximum of 90.1% for weight loss, 89.2% for thermometric investigations, 91.4% for electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and 85.1% for (potentiodynamics polarization) techniques at 500 ppm. The clonazepam drug functions as a mixed-type corrosion inhibitor as demonstrated by the potentiodynamic polarization method. The clonazepam drug adsorption followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The mild steel surface has a barrier layers covering it, as shown by the surface characterization studies via SEM and AFM. The highest occupied molecular orbital (EHOMO), the energy of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (ELUMO), the energy gap (ΔE), chemical hardness (η), softness (σ), dipole moment (μ) and electronegativity (Ɛ) were all evaluated for neutral and protonated forms respectively. The molecular dynamic simulations evidenced a near flat adsorption orientation on the Fe surface. 

Multidimensional insight into the corrosion mitigation of clonazepam drug molecule on mild steel in chloride environment: Empirical and computer simulation explorations

In this study, MXene was functionalized with stearic acid (SA) to prepare a bifunctional nano-accelerator (AMX) with phosphating acceleration and hydrophobic modification for low-temperature phosphating treatment. The AMX hybrid was incorporated into the phosphating bath to simultaneously achieve the acceleration of the phosphating process and hydrophobic treatment of the phosphate coating. The resulting phosphate coating prepared from the phosphating bath containing 0.04 g/L AMX (4-AMX/ZP) exhibited significantly enhanced hydrophobicity, with the large water contact angle (130.83°). Furthermore, the 4-AMX/ZP had the lowest porosity among all samples, which was 96.35 % lower than that of the Pure/ZP. Moreover, the results of electrochemical tests demonstrated that the |Z0.01 Hz| value of 4-AMX/ZP exhibited an increase of more than one order of magnitude when compared to the Pure/ZP, underscoring the excellent corrosion resistance of 4-AMX/ZP. In sum, the incorporation of AMX nano-accelerator into the phosphating bath accelerated the formation of the phosphate coating, simultaneously leading to the phosphate coating being hydrophobic and enhancing its corrosion resistance.

Enhancement of low-zinc phosphate coatings with addition Ni2+ and Mn2+ cations: Structure, corrosion resistance and paint adhesion

A manufacturing process that can be used to join two or more steels by welding. This process involves an uneven distribution of heat which causes residual stresses to occur. Residual stresses in the material, even though the external forces acting have been removed in the local heat distribution area in plastic deformation. Residual stress has a significant relationship with material exhaustion. Tensile residual stress (TRS) can reduce fatigue life, while compressive residual stress (CRS) will increase fatigue life. CRS makes the stress received by the material lower, resulting in a more expansive Fatigue Crack Propagation (FCP) area and a much smaller final fracture cross-section. Materials with CRS have a higher fatigue life than materials without CRS. Fatigue resistance can be increased by reducing the residual stress in tension. Currently one method that is widely used to increase fatigue resistance is shot peening. Shot peening provides CRS on the surface so that crack initiation originates below the surface of the material causing an increase in fatigue resistance. 

Residual stress effect on fatigue behavior of steel welded: A review

Multifunction cavitation (MFC) has potential as an environmentally friendly surface-modification method. In the present study, the modified surface layer and the fatigue properties for MFC-processed low-alloy steel were investigated. When the processing time was longer than 2 min, the surface roughness increased and the surface potential decreased. The maximum compressive residual stress was induced after a processing time of 2 min, and decreased for longer processing times. Electron backscatter diffraction analysis of a cross section of a sample subjected to MFC for 30 min showed that the modified layer was thicker than that for samples processed for shorter times. The fatigue life at high cycle numbers increased for the specimens processed by MFC under the conditions corresponding to the greatest compressive residual stress. MFC processing was shown to be effective in improving the fatigue properties of steel, and therefore has potential as a next-generation surface-modification method.
