TL;DR: A difference in pathogenesis is suggested between these lesion‐types: the ramified, activated microglia associated with PVL may reflect immune activation resulting from disruption of the blood brain barrier, while the microglias within DSCL may reflect an innate, amoeboid phagocytic phenotype.
