A system and methods for simultaneous editing of one or more documents by two or more distinct users is disclosed. Each document is divided into a number of mutually exclusive sections, which together contain the entire document. Each section is stored in a separate data container. Each document has primary data of a primary data type. The containers that store the primary data for each document have a common parent container, which is at the head of a document sub-tree corresponding to the document. A document may also include embedded data, which may be of the same or a different type than the primary data. The embedded data is typically stored in embedded data containers, which are typically child containers of the primary data containers. Each of the parent containers is a child container of a root container, which is at the head of a container tree in which all documents in a workspace are stored. Each workspace also includes a member list. The system may include more than one workspace, and may include users who are members of more than one workspace. Editors are provided for editing documents and embedded data of a number of data types that are supported by the system. Each editor is configured to allow a member to edit data in a section of a document. Typically, data may only be edited after obtaining an exclusive lock for the container in which the section is stored. However, in some cases, data may be edited without first locking the associated container and the modified container may be blindly posted. Different sections of a document may be simultaneously locked by different members, allowing the members to simultaneously edit the two different sections. Editing changes to a document are posted by each editor to a workspace server, which then broadcasts the changes to all connected members of the workspace, allowing members to view changes to a document after they are posted.

The system may provide the user with an opportunity to request that the system locate programs that are related to the given program in which the user has indicated an interest. The system may display a list of located listings and allow the user to select listings from the list. The system may tune to a program selected from the list, may display an information display screen for a program selected from the list, etc. The system may provide the user with an opportunity to configure and save search parameters. The system may sort related program listings based on the attributes of the given program. The system may provide the user with the opportunity to retrieve saved searches to locate currently available program listings and the opportunity to delete a saved search, rename a saved search, receive automatic notifications of programs matching a saved search, etc.

The present disclosure describes a unique way for each of multiple processes to operate in parallel using (e.g., reading, modifying, and writing to) the same shared data without causing corruption to the shared data. For example, each of multiple processes utilizes current and past data values associated with a global counter or clock for purposes of determining whether any shared variables used to produce a respective transaction outcome were modified (by another process) when executing a respective transaction. If a respective process detects that shared data used by respective process was modified during a transaction, the process can abort and retry the transaction rather than cause data corruption by storing locally maintained results associated with the transaction to a globally shared data space.

Methods and apparatus to implement parallel transactions

A workflow, enterprise, and mail-enabled application server and platform supports distributed computing and remote execution of web applications. Lotus Domino online services (DOLS) is used by a web site administrator to configure Internet Notes (iNotes) clients to auto download from server, thus providing iNotes clients with web access using HTTP with various browsers, and with local processing and replication. A local run time model comprises a hierarchy of models including object data store model, security model, indexing model, replication model, agent workflow model and mail model. DOLS provides a layered security model that allows flexibility for controlling access to all or part of an application. The highest level of security is managed through a database access control list (ACL). Further refinements within the security model provide access to specific documents, and their views, forms or folders, and include read access lists, write access lists, form access lists and readers and authors fields.

System and method for developing and administering web applications and services from a workflow, enterprise, and mail-enabled web application server and platform

A Web application framework for creating Web-based applications is described. The framework includes an abstract command tag that predefines at least some generic Web application activities. When using the framework, one specifies at least one custom action that is desired to be performed by a Web application under development. In one embodiment, this includes creating a customized command tag that is capable of being embedded within a Web page. The customized command tag includes the ability to conditionally execute the specified custom action based on run-time conditions. The customized command tag is embedded in a Web page of the Web application.

Software framework for web-based applications

A method and apparatus for allowing multiple developers of software applications working in client/server computing network to remotely save, test and debug project files such as web pages. The client computer is capable of emulating server side operations to allow the developer to locally test changes to project files before they are saved on the server. The client computer maintains an accurate view of the overall project, but without having to locally copy the entire software project, by storing file information relating to the software project including, for example, metadata, link information, and BOT replacements, and/or a directory structure of the files and folders in the software project that mirrors the directory structure of the software project on the server. Various features include providing developers with the ability to check out, modify and debug files concurrently with other developers, and merging changes made by different developers to the same file. Concurrently modified files may be merged by prompting a developer when conflicts arise between the files to be merged.

Techniques to manage collaborative documents are described. An application program may comprise a document render component to render a first document instance of a collaborative document, a document share component to receive a document update list comprising a set of change records for a second document instance of the collaborative document, and modify properties of one or more constructs for the first document instance based on the change records to form a merged document instance of the collaborative document, and an undo manager component to manage a local undo stack for the first document instance, the local undo stack comprising a set of undo records, and determine whether to preserve one or more of the undo records of the local undo stack after formation of the merged document instance based on one or more of the change records. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Described is a technique for managing collaborative documents. An application program comprises a document renderer component for rendering a first document instance of the collaborative documents; a document sharing component for receiving a document update list comprising a change record set of a second document instance of the collaborative documents, and modifying one or more structural properties of the first document instance based on the change records so as to form a merged document instance of the collaborative documents; and an undo manager component for managing a local undo stack of the first document instance and determining whether one or more undo records of the local undo stack is kept or not after formation of the merged document instance, on the basis of the one or more change records, wherein the local undo stack comprises an undo record set. Other embodiments are also descried and claimed.

Technique for managing collaborative documents

Systems and methods are disclosed that provide a flexible file capable of storing rich content. A flexible file may include a section object, one or more tile objects stored within the section object, and one or more clip objects associated with each tile object. A clip objects may store a content item. Alternatively a clip object may store one or more references to a content item, the content item being stored externally to the flexible file. The disclosed flexible file allows an application to adjust the atomicity based upon the needs of a user or application.
