Machine-Learning-Based Monitoring of Laser Powder Bed Fusion
Bodi Yuan,Gabriel M. Guss,Aaron Wilson,Stefan P. Hau-Riege,Phillip J. DePond,Sara McMains,Manyalibo J. Matthews,Brian Giera +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, a two-step machine learning approach is proposed to monitor laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) additive manufacturing, which enables on-the-fly assessments of laser track welds.

Heterogeneous sensing and scientific machine learning for quality assurance in laser powder bed fusion – A single-track study
Aniruddha Gaikwad,Aniruddha Gaikwad,Brian Giera,Gabriel M. Guss,Jean-Baptiste Forien,Manyalibo J. Matthews,Prahalad K. Rao +6 more
TL;DR: This work develops and evaluates machine learning-based predictive models using height map-derived quality metrics for single tracks and the accompanying pyrometer and high-speed video camera data collected under a wide range of laser power and laser velocity settings and finds the SeDANN model outperforms other purely data-driven black box models in both accuracy and speed.

- 13 Nov 2016
TL;DR: This paper describes the hardware and software ecosystem encompassing the brain-inspired TrueNorth processor – a 70mW reconfigurable silicon chip with 1 million neurons, 256 million synapses, and 4096 parallel and distributed neural cores.

Electric double-layer structure in primitive model electrolytes: comparing molecular dynamics with local-density approximations.
TL;DR: Excellent agreement between the EDL capacitances predicted by CS-LDAs and computed in molecular simulations is found even in systems where ion correlations drive strong density and free charge oscillations within the EDl, despite the inability of LDAs to capture the oscillations in the detailed EDL profiles.
Semi-Supervised Convolutional Neural Networks for In-Situ Video Monitoring of Selective Laser Melting
Bodi Yuan,Brian Giera,Gabe Guss,Ibo Matthews,Sara McMains +4 more
- 01 Jan 2019
TL;DR: Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed monitoring approach and also show that the semi-supervised model can mitigate the time and expense of labeling an entire SLM dataset.
