Use of alkaline calcium salts as phosphate binder in uremic patients
Albert Fournier,Philippe Moriniere,Ben Hamida F,el Esjer N,Shenovda M,Ghazali A,Bouzernidj M,Jean-Michel Achard,Pierre-François Westeel +8 more
TL;DR: The effectiveness of CaCO3 without 1 alpha(OH)D3 derivatives in the control of hypercalcemia in dialysis patients has been proven by the appearance in four patients of the dialysis population of an histological idiopathic adynamic bone disease associated with relative hypoparathyroidism, and by the finding that more than 50% of the Dialysis population treated by this sole treatment have plasma concentration of intact PTH below twice the upper limit of normal.

Management of hyperphosphatemia in patients with renal failure.
TL;DR: Oral calcium alone, without 1 alpha OH-vitamin D3 derivatives, can prevent hyperphosphatemia and hyperparathyroidism in most uremic patients before dialysis and in about half of the patients dialyzed with a dialysate calcium of 1.5 to 1.65 mmol/L.

Renal and hypertensive complications of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy: who is at risk?
P Bataille,Cardon G,Bouzernidj M,N. El Esper,A Pruna,Ghazali A,Pierre-François Westeel,Jean-Michel Achard,A. Fournier +8 more
TL;DR: In practice in patients over 60 years of age and/or with a plasma creatinine of >to 300 micromol/l, ESWL should be performed with caution, and renal function and blood pressure should be carefully monitored.

Renal and hypertensive complications of extracorporeal lithotripsy
Bataille P,A Pruna,Cardon G,Bouzernidj M,el Esper N,Ghazali A,Pierre-François Westeel,Jean-Michel Achard,A. Fournier +8 more
TL;DR: The causal effect of ESWL on late occurrence of permanent hypertension is however still uncertain, probably because of the difficulty to show that this occurrence is not related to the older age of the patient alone.
