In today’s highly competitive environment, improper evaluation and selection of the right suppliers can hinder an organizations supply chain performance. The aim of this study is to present a suitable methodology for the evaluation and selection of suppliers in a pharmaceutical manufacturing firm in Ghana. Specifically, the study sought to use the Analytic Hierarchy Process methodology to select the most appropriate raw material suppliers of the artemether-lumefantrine anti-malarial drug for the case study organization. A review of literature identified quality, cost, reliability, regulatory compliance, risk, financial position and supplier profile as the most important criteria for supplier selection. The study however used the three criteria of quality, price and reliability/capacity for selecting the best suppliers. The results suggest that the AHP makes it easier to evaluate, rank and select efficient suppliers for manufacturing firms in a timely and reliable manner. Based on the research findings, the quality selection criterion is most favoured, followed by reliability/capacity, and price. Regarding the selection of the suppliers, the research recommended S & D Chemicals as the best supplier of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and Hellmuth Carroux as the best supplier of Excipients for the case study firm.

Order allocation and procurement transport planning in apparel supply chain: A utility-based possibilistic-flexible programming approach

Supply chain management (SCM) has become very important technology management concept to attain the quality consciousness. The attainment of quality in supply chains (SCs) will only be achieved with the help of good supply chain performance evaluation system. Also, the textile industries in India are the fastest growing and prime contributor to Indian economic development. As we all know, designing performance measurement system is dependent on various attributes, hence a multi criteria decision making tool is required, and similarly, as supply chain management is a process oriented approach, hence the same process improvement concept is needed. Therefore, the main aim of the paper is to review the existence of supply chain management and supply chain performance measurement system (SCPMS) in the Indian textile industry. Literature reviewed reveals that there is a need of proactive and integrated performance measurement framework for the said industry, also the selection of performance measures/metrics should be unique. Hence, the study here suggests the SCPMS for the core textile industry with the use of three performance metrics; inventory scheduling, production operation and scheduling and human resource scheduling. The analytical techniques used for developing framework are also kept unique and they are analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and Six Sigma.

Designing innovative framework for supply chain performance measurement in textile industry

Green issues are a popular topic in today’s business life, and it is possible to see green products or advertisements in many different places due to the demand for a healthier lifestyle. Companies that are willing to be a part of the green concept should integrate this philosophy in all departments. As a result, the procurement might be seen a crucial part of this integration. However, in the emerging markets, green issues might be pushed into the background due to the competitive environment. In this study, we investigated green and other parameters in the supplier selection decision in textile industry. A decision criteria list was created and evaluated by 28 experts using the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process. The results showed that green issues have an influence on the decision environment; however, classical parameters, such as cost, delivery reliability, quality, service, and strategic alliance still carry more priority compared to green criteria consisting of environmental management, green products, and pollution control.

Evaluation of the Parameters of the Green Supplier Selection Decision in Textile Industry

The textile sector is one of the most important among all industrial branches. It is important in world commerce because it is a highlight both in the economy of developed countries and in emergent countries. The purpose of this study is to help a Brazilian textile company, which specializes in jeans production, to study the conditions for installing a plant in three possible regions where the most important textile companies of the country are located. In the study, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), a multicriteria methodology for decision support, is used and results show a slight tendency toward the Rio de Janeiro state when compared to the Santa Catarina state, with both presenting a significant advantage over the Rio Grande do Norte state.

Summary: The aim of this study is to emphasize the importance the vendor selection problem and its relation to the supply chain strategy and goals. First, the current conditions of the textile or apparel industry are analyzed and the key factors for a successful supply chain considering the globalization of the industry are discussed. An analytical hierarchy process (AHP) model that an apparel company can use for the selection of suppliers is presented and a supplier relationship management (SRM) strategy is created based on the results of the model. In addition, strategic priorities for the supplier selection problem are identified and weights are developed to select the right supplier that fits the company’s strategy. Finally, the outcome and the implications of the model for implementation are discussed.
