In recent years, copper ferrite (CuFe2O4) nanoparticles (NPs) have attracted many researcher’s attention due to its potential application in water purification. CuFe2O4 NPs are low-cost magnetic material and stable under different conditions. Consequently, easily recovered from treated water using an external magnetic field and reused for several cycles. In this review, an emphasis was placed on understanding the impacts of certain factors such as synthesis method, calcination temperature, dopant type, pH and crystalline size on the magnetic properties of CuFe2O4 NPs and its nanocomposites (NCs). The application of CuFe2O4 NPs in water treatment and its ability to be combined with other nanomaterials for photocatalysis and adsorption were fully discussed. The possibility of recovery and reuse of CuFe2O4 NPs and its NCs were deliberated. Lastly, the gaps that are still open for research in the fine-tuning of the magnetic properties and other physical properties of CuFe2O4 NPs for its full utilisation in water purification were outlined. Hence, using CuFe2O4 NPs and its NCs at industrial scale for water purification can go a long way in lowering the costs of water, since it utilises visible light as an energy source and due to its ability to be reused several times.

A number of studies on zinc ferrite (ZnFe2O4) as photocatalyst in cleaning wastewater have been achieved, because zinc ferrite nanoparticles are less toxic, chemically stable, possess high magnetic crystalline anisotropy, high coercivity, good magnetization, are biocompatible and cost-effective. Besides, separation of zinc ferrite photocatalyst is facile due to its magnificent magnetic behavior. The current review addresses zinc ferrite as a promising photocatalyst, its magnetic properties and electronic structure. Furthermore, various synthesis techniques have been reviewed viz. hydrothermal, sol-gel, polyol, co-precipitation, microwave, solvothermal, microemulsion, etc. for zinc ferrite photocatalysts. Various strategies for enhancing photocatalytic performances of heterojunctioned zinc ferrite photocatalysts were thoroughly reviewed. In conclusion, challenges and upcoming research requirements in edict to improve photocatalytic applications of zinc ferrite photocatalysts are addressed.

Recent Progresses of High-Temperature Microwave-Absorbing Materials

The present work designates the preparation of nanocrystalline nickel ferrite and aluminium-doped nickel ferrite nanoparticles with general formula NiAlxFe2−xO4 (x = 0–0.7) prepared by the sol–gel auto-combustion method. The structural (XRD and FTIR), morphological (SEM with EDAX, HRTEM with SAED) and optical (UV–Visible DRS and Luminescence spectroscopy) properties of the products were characterized. XRD studies revealed the formation of the single phase with a cubic spinel structure with an average crystallite size varies between 19 and 38 nm. The increase in aluminium content caused the variation in the lattice parameter (8.2782–8.3366 A). SEM images shows the morphology have nanocrystalline behavior with a spherical structure. FTIR represents the characteristic peaks of M–O vibrations in tetrahedral (~ 591 cm−1) and octahedral (~ 398 cm−1) sites. From the UV–Vis DRS spectra, the band gap is decreasing with increasing doping, estimated to be 2.03–1.90 eV. The luminescence spectrum displays violet, blue, green, and orange emission. The aluminium-doped nickel ferrite nanoparticles act as an exceptional photocatalyst for the degradation of rose bengal dye (99.8% in 150 min) with respect to bulk material (63% in 150 min) under visible light (300 W tungsten lamp) irradiation. Furthermore, these nanoparticles were acted against gram-negative bacteria stain (Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Escherichia coli).

Effect of aluminium doping on structural, optical, photocatalytic and antibacterial activity on nickel ferrite nanoparticles by sol–gel auto-combustion method

Nowadays, CoFe2O4 (cobalt ferrite) nanoparticles have fascinated numerous researcher’s consideration because of their latent implementation in water treatment. CoFe2O4 nanoparticles are cost-efficient magnetic materials and are stable under diverse environments. Therefore, they are effortlessly removed from purified water by means of an external magnetic field and reclaimed for quite a lot of cycles. In this analysis, the focus was given on learning the influences of some aspects including calcination temperature, crystalline size, pH, synthesis method, and dopant type on the magnetic properties of CoFe2O4 nanocomposites and nanoparticles. The implementation of CoFe2O4 nanoparticles in water purification and its capability to be united with various nanoparticles for adsorption and photocatalysis were entirely conferred. The chance of retrieval and reprocess of CoFe2O4 nanoparticles and its nanocomposites were discussed. Finally, the holes which are still not built up for study in the modification of physical properties and further magnetic properties of CoFe2O4 nanoparticles for its complete usage in water treatment were delineated. Henceforth, using CoFe2O4 nanoparticles and its nanocomposites at trade scale for water treatment will definitely reduce the expenses of water as it uses visible light as the energy source and because of its capability to be recycled numerous times.

Review on Recent Advances of Synthesis, Magnetic Properties, and Water Treatment Applications of Cobalt Ferrite Nanoparticles and Nanocomposites

ZnFe 2 O 4 is an attractive material due to its unique properties and various applications. A large volume of works on the synthesis of ZnFe 2 O 4 have been reported such as mechanochemical synthesis, co-precipitation method, sol-gel auto-combustion method, electrospinning method, hydrothermal/solvothermal method, and spray drying. The synthetic methodologies have significant influence on the properties, morphologies and structures of the ZnFe 2 O 4 . Moreover, with the Fe 3+ and Zn 2+ substituted by different metal ions, the properties of ZnFe 2 O 4 can be altered. Besides, the zinc ferrite composites with controlled morphologies and structures have been investigated. Owing to the enhanced magnetic, electrical and catalytic properties of the zinc ferrite composites, extensive applications of zinc ferrite composites have been achieved. In this review, we summarized the synthetic methods as well as the modifications of the ZnFe 2 O 4 . The review also dealt with applications of the ZnFe 2 O 4 and its composites in the fields of sensors, photocatalysis and lithium ion batteries, etc.
