Li3V2−xNbx(PO4)3/C cathode materials were synthesized by a sol–gel method. X-ray diffraction patterns demonstrated that the appropriate addition of Nb did not destroy the lattice structure of Li3V2(PO4)3, and enlarged the unit cell volume, which could provide more space for lithium intercalation/de-intercalation. Transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis illustrated that Nb could not only be doped into the crystal lattice, but also form an amorphous (Nb, C, V, P and O) layer around the particles. As the cathode materials of Li-ion batteries, Li3V2−xNbx(PO4)3/C (x ≤ 0.15) exhibited higher discharge capacity and better cycle stability than the pure one. At a discharge rate of 0.5C, the initial discharge capacity of Li3V1.85Nb0.15(PO4)3/C was 162.4 mAh/g. The low charge-transfer resistances and large lithium ion diffusion coefficients confirmed that Li3V2−xNbx(PO4)3/C samples possessed better electronic conductivity and lithium ion mobility. These improved electrochemical performances can be attributed to the appropriate amount of Nb doping in Li3V2(PO4)3 system by enhancing structural stability and electrical conductivity.

The invention discloses a method for preparing a lithium ion battery anode material, namely vanadium lithium fluophosphate, through hydrothermal synthesis reaction, which comprises: dissolving ammonium metavanadate, phosphate, organic acid, lithium salt and villaumite into water according to the mol ratio of 1.9-2.1:1.9:2.1:0.95-1.1:1.9-2.1:1.9-2.1, making the mixture react for 1 to 4 days in a hydrothermal synthesis reaction kettle at a temperature of between 200 and 350 DEG C, and drying the mixture to obtain a finished product, namely LiVPO4F. The method is simple and convenient, is easy to control, has low cost, simplifies the synthesis technology, and improves the charge and discharge performance and the cycle performance of samples.

Cr-doped Li3V2(PO4)3 cathode materials Li3V2−xCrx(PO4)3 were prepared by a carbothermal reduction(CTR) process. The properties of the Cr-doped Li3V2(PO4)3 were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopic (SEM), and electrochemical measurements. Results show that the Cr-doped Li3V2(PO4)3 has the same monoclinic structure as the undoped Li3V2(PO4)3, and the particle size of Cr-doped Li3V2(PO4)3 is smaller than that of the undoped Li3V2(PO4)3 and the smallest particle size is only about 1 μm. The Cr-doped Li3V2(PO4)3 samples were investigated on the Li extraction/insertion performances through charge/discharge, cyclic voltammogram (CV), and electrochemical impedance spectra(EIS). The optimal doping content of Cr was that x=0.04 in the Li3V2−xCrx(PO4)3 samples to achieve high discharge capacity and good cyclic stability. The electrode reaction reversibility was enhanced, and the charge transfer resistance was decreased through the Cr-doping. The improved electrochemical performances of the Cr-doped Li3V2(PO4)3 cathode materials are attributed to the addition of Cr3+ ion by stabilizing the monoclinic structure.
