Effects of a high magnetic field on the primary zinc-rich crystals in hypoeutectic Zn-Sn alloy

The influence of alternating magnetic field on hot tearing susceptibility (HTS) and microstructure of Al-5Cu alloy were studied using hot tearing test system and differential thermal analysis test. The Clyne-Davies model was used to evaluate the HTS of the alloy quantitatively under different magnetic current intensities (0A, 5A, 10A, 15A). The experimental results show that the HTS and microstructure of Al-5Cu alloy can be affected by imposing the alternating magnetic field during alloy solidification. In the range of 0–10A, with the increase of alternating magnetic field current intensity, there is strong forced convection in the molten metallic pool under the action of electromagnetic force, which leads to the fragmentation of dendrites and the grains refinement, optimizes the feeding channels between grains and reduces the HTS of the alloy. When the alternating magnetic field intensity is 15A, the grains become coarser due to the thermal effect of electromagnetic field, resulting in the deterioration of the feeding channel and the increase of HTS. 

Effects of Alternating Magnetic Field on the Hot Tearing Susceptibility and Microstructure of Al-5Cu Alloy

Due to the unique capacity for structural control, high magnetic fields (HMFs) have been widely applied to the solidification process of alloys. In zinc-based alloys, the primary zinc-rich crystals can be dendritic or needle-like in two dimensions. For the dendritic crystals, their growth pattern and orientation behaviors under HMFs have been investigated. However, the three-dimensional crystallographic growth pattern and the orientation behaviors of the needle-like primary zinc-rich crystals under a high magnetic field have not been studied. In this work, a ternary Sn-Zn-Bi alloy was solidified under different HMFs. The above-mentioned two aspects of the needle-like primary zinc-rich crystals were characterized using the Electron Backscattered Diffraction (EBSD) technique. The results show that the primary zinc-rich crystals are characterized by the plate-shaped faceted growth in three dimensions. They grow in the following manner: spreading rapidly in the {0001} basal plane with a gradual decrease in thickness at the edges. The application of HMFs has no effect on the growth form of the primary zinc-rich crystals, but induces their vertical alignment. Crystallographic analysis indicates that the vertically aligned primary zinc-rich crystals orient preferentially with the c-axis perpendicular to the direction of the magnetic field.

In hybrid perovskites, the organic molecules and inorganic frameworks exhibit distinct static and dynamic characteristics. Their coupling will lead to unprecedented phenomena, which have attracted wide research interests. In this paper, we employed Deep Potential molecular dynamics (DPMD), a large-scale MD simulation scheme with DFT accuracy, to study FA / MAPbI 3 hybrid perovskites. A spontaneous hybrid nano-domain behavior, namely multiple molecular rotation nano-domains embedded into a single [PbI 6 ] 4 − octahedra rotation domain, was ﬁrstly discovered at low temperatures. The behavior originates from the interplay between the long range order of molecular rotation and local lattice deformation, and clariﬁes the puzzling diﬀraction patterns of FAPbI 3 at low temperatures. Our work provides new insights into the structural characteristics and stability of hybrid perovskite, as well as new ideas for the structural characterization of organic-inorganic coupled systems.
