Evaluating reading fluency behavior via reading rates of elementary school students reading e-books

Educational technology has been widely adopted to support students’ learning. However, existing literature provides fractional pictures of the current adoption and expectations of educational technology in hospitality programs in higher education. This study examines the perspectives of hospitality management students on educational technology adoption, its advantages, their concerns and expectations regarding the integration of educational technology. The findings reveal flexibility as the main advantage of educational technology, while the need for stronger self-motivation is the main concern. Students expect more adoption of multimedia in education, while the current adoption of social software suffices their expectation. Also, different technology adoption is recommended to satisfy lower and upper classmen respectively.

Educational technology in hospitality management programs: adoption and expectations

Economic losses caused by natural disasters have increased rapidly in recent years. Therefore, learning about natural catastrophe will be helpful for saving life and reducing cost. This study explores the effect of using the interactive electronic book available from Lego Simple Power Machine sets for learning. The applications for Power Machine are wide, such as in robots manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and intelligent devices. Based on the theory of Human–Computer Interaction, user-centered design is a modern and widely practiced design philosophy rooted in the idea that users must take center-stage in the design of any computer system. An interactive electronic book is developed to test learning achievement with the Lego Simple Power Machine set. The results reveal that the attention of users can be improved and the image can also be improved during the interaction and operation process. Finally, this study proves that the interactive electronic book makes learning easier and faster than the traditional book.

How to manipulate interactive E-book on learning natural catastrophe—An example of structural mechanics using power machine

The spatial distribution of Facebook has brought enterprises a new trend in internet/online marketing. There is an increase in enterprise that begins to focus on the operation of Facebook Fan Page, which treats the Fan Page as an interaction between enterprises and consumers. Therefore, electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) is passed around by the Fan Page and is purposed to promote the enterprise brand as well. However, the personality traits of every user of the Fan Page vary so as the way to pass eWOM on the Fan Page. This study is intended to use Shock Fan Page as a research platform to investigate the following four aspects: (1) The motivation of user for joining Facebook Fan Page; (2) The impact of Facebook Fan Page’s personality traits on eWOM; (3) The impact of different types of messages on eWOM; (4) How would personality traits affecting the willingness of eWOM for different types of messages on Facebook Fan Page. According to the research results, the main reason that users join Facebook Fan Page is to receive more information about the products provided by the enterprise, rather than to meet new friends and expand their social circles. In the personality traits factor, the unique needs have a significant influence on two eWOM activities, that is, using “Like Button” and “Share Button” to indicate the motivations and willingness of sharing different types of messages. Lastly, according to the research results, users are more likely to click “Like Button” for supporting the messages on the Fan Page, rather than to share.

The spatio-temporal distribution of different types of messages and personality traits affecting the eWOM of Facebook

Although previous studies have highlighted the advantages of using e-books for learning, most have compared learning achieved with traditional textbooks with that achieved with e-books in a classroom situation. These studies focused on individual learning instead of on interactions among learners, learning behavior using e- books after school, and parental observations of children using e-books for learning. This research investigated the use of annotatable multimedia e-readers (AMEs) for elementary school-level English and examined the effects of annotation-sharing mechanisms inside and outside the classroom on learning and achievement. The research findings suggest that reading the annotations of high-achieving learners (HLA) via the annotation- sharing function can reinforce learning. Moreover, HLA annotate significantly more in class and after school than do low-achieving learners (LLA). We found a positive correlation among parents' perceptions of after- school learning with AMEs, learners' after-school annotation recording, learning behavior while listening to such recordings, and children's learning achievement.
