Non-oxide supported Pt-metal-group catalysts for efficiently CO and toluene co-oxidation: Difference in water resistance and degradation intermediates

Photocatalysis technology has the advantages of being green, clean, and environmentally friendly, and has been widely used in CO2 reduction, hydrolytic hydrogen production, and the degradation of pollutants in water. Cu2O has the advantages of abundant reserves, a low cost, and environmental friendliness. Based on the narrow bandgap and strong visible light absorption ability of Cu2O, Cu2O-based composite materials show infinite development potential in photocatalysis. However, in practical large-scale applications, Cu2O-based composites still pose some urgent problems that need to be solved, such as the high composite rate of photogenerated carriers, and poor photocatalytic activity. This paper introduces a series of Cu2O-based composites, based on recent reports, including pure Cu2O and Cu2O hybrid materials. The modification strategies of photocatalysts, critical physical and chemical parameters of photocatalytic reactions, and the mechanism for the synergistic improvement of photocatalytic performance are investigated and explored. In addition, the application and photocatalytic performance of Cu2O-based photocatalysts in CO2 photoreduction, hydrogen production, and water pollution treatment are discussed and evaluated. Finally, the current challenges and development prospects are pointed out, to provide guidance in applying Cu2O-based catalysts in renewable energy utilization and environmental protection. 

A Review on Cu2O-Based Composites in Photocatalysis: Synthesis, Modification, and Applications

The extensive use of fossil fuels in residential and industrial fields has resulted in massive emission of gaseous pollutants, which poses a severe threat to the environment and human health. Consequently, it is critical to develop affordable air cleaning technology, catalytic oxidation is one of the most promising technologies for this purpose. CeO2-based catalysts with special morphologies have aroused widespread attention because of their environmental friendliness, surface binding defects, excellent redox ability, and significant oxygen storage capacity. In addition, the morphologies of these catalysts also modulate the valence state of the element, defect sites, and acid-base properties. Therefore, they have been extensively utilized to reduce air pollutants. In this review, the preparation and application of CeO2-based catalysts with special morphologies, such as hollow, cubic, rod-like, and others, have been summarized, followed by an in-depth examination of the advantages and mechanisms of these catalysts toward eliminating air pollutants. Finally, the challenges associated with the preparation and application of CeO2-based catalysts with special morphologies are presented. We hope to provide some reference for the future design and synthesis of novel CeO2-based catalysts used for the abatement of gas pollutants.

Insight into copper-cerium catalysts with different Cu valence states for CO-SCR and in-situ DRIFTS study on reaction mechanism

High activity and stability are the goals sought for by industrial applications of dry reforming of methane (DRM). However, the particle size is not easy to control and carbon accumulations are key issues to be solved. Herein, a new Ce-doping Ni-based catalyst (Ni–Ce–P2h) with excellent coke resistance and eximious activity was prepared by the N2 Radio Frequency Plasma assisted impregnation method. The prepared materials were characterized by means of XRD, SEM, TEM, BET, H2-TPR, XPS and TG. The results showed that the plasma treatment time was important, and catalysts with 2 h of plasma treatment had the best catalytic performance. The initial activities of CH4 and CO2 for Ni–Ce–P2h catalyst both exceed 76% at 700 °C. Compared to the conventional catalyst Ni–C and Ni–Ce–C with high temperature calcination treatment, the initial conversion of CH4 and CO2 for Ni–Ce–P2h was improved by over 15% and 10%, respectively. Moreover, excellent stability of Ni–Ce–P2h was observed. The activity drop was no more than 3% after 10h long time reaction. And the amount of carbon accumulation was only 0.5%. The smaller grain size of active components Ni, the stronger metal-support interactions and more abundant oxygen species might be the main reasons for the better DRM performance on the Ni–Ce catalysts prepared by plasma-assisted method. The Ni particle size of the Ni–Ce–P2h catalyst was only 5.4 nm, which is much smaller than that of the Ni–C (24 nm) and Ni–Ce–C (20 nm). This study provides a new idea to explore the synergistic effect of Ce doping and the plasma treatment on Ni based catalyst with good DRM performance.
