The present invention relates to a substrate (1) coated with a porous layer (2), to the processes for manufacturing the layer and to its applications. The porous layer (2) is mainly inorganic and of sol-gel type having a series of closed pores with at least the smallest characteristic dimension which is, on average, greater than or equal to 20 nm and less than or equal to 100 nm.

The present disclosure is directed to lenses, devices, methods and/or systems for addressing refractive error. Certain embodiments are directed to changing or controlling the wavefront of the light entering a human eye. Certain embodiments are directed to lenses, devices and/or methods For example, a lens for an eye having an optical axis and an aberration profile along its optical axis, the aberration profile having a focal distance and including higher order aberrations having at least one of a primary spherical aberration component C(4,0) and a secondary spherical aberration component C(6,0) The aberration profile may provide, for a model eye with no aberrations and an on-axis length equal to the focal distance: (i) a peak, first retinal image quality (RIQ) within a through focus range that remains at or above a second RIQ over the through focus range that includes said focal distance, where the first RIQ is at least 035, the second RIQ is at least 01 and the through focus range is at least 18 Diopters; (ii) a RIQ of 03 with a through focus slope that improves in a direction of eye growth; and (iii) a RIQ of 03 with a through focus slope that degrades in a direction of eye growth The RIQ may be Visual Strehl Ratio or similar measured along the optical axis for at least one pupil diameter in the range 3 mm to 6 mm, over a spatial frequency range of 0 to 30 cycles/degree inclusive and at a wavelength selected from within the range 540 nm to 590 nm inclusive

The invention concerns a transparent and polarizing viewing element ( 2 ) divided into several zones ( 2 a , 2 b ). At least one of the zones ( 2 a ) is associated with a light polarizing filter. The light passing through the optical surface is affected differently for two of said zones ( 2 a , 2 b ) depending on the polarizing direction of said light. The polarizing filter is obliquely oriented relative to a horizontal direction (H) in the operational position of the element ( 2; 5 ), with an angle between the filter orientation and said horizontal direction of 90 degrees and of 0 degree.

The invention further relates to an optical element having an anti-reflection surface (34, 34a) comprising metal clusters (32, 32a) and/or metal oxide clusters (38, 38) which are essentially regularly distributed over the surface of the optical element (22).

The invention relates to a method of producing a substrate which is coated with a mesoporous layer and to the use thereof in ophthalmic optics. The inventive method comprises the following steps consisting in: preparing a precursor sol containing (i) a precursor agent that is selected from compounds having formula M(X)4 (I), in which X is a hydrolysable group and M represents silicon or a tetravalent metal and mixtures thereof, (ii) at least one organic solvent, (iii) at least one pore-forming agent and (iv) water; depositing a film of the precursor sol on a main surface of the substrate; optionally consolidating the mesoporous structure of the deposited film; eliminating the pore-forming agent; and recovering the substrate coated with the mesoporous layer. The method is characterized in that: (i) the pore-forming agent is eliminated at a temperature of less than or equal to 150° C.; and (ii) the method comprises a step involving the introduction of at least one reactive agent bearing at least one hydrophobic group, before the deposition step (b) and/or after said step.
