Abstract The main objective of the present study is to explore the effects of electromagnetohydrodynamics electroosmotic flow of hybrid nanofluid through circular cylindrical microchannels. An analysis of hybrid nanofluid consisting of four different nanomaterials i.e., single and multiwall carbon nanotubes, silver, and copper is carried out. Yamada–Ota model is employed for the single and multi wall carbon nanotubes, whereas, Xue model is used for the Silver and Copper hybrid nanofluid for specifying the thermal conductivity. The imposed pressure gradient, electromagnetic field and electroosmosis actuated the fluid flow. The flow of heat transfer and Nusselt number with the account of various effects of Joule heating and viscous dissipation under the circumstances of constant heat flux are discussed graphically. The governing system of equations is molded into a system of coupled, nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The shooting technique is used to extract the numerical solutions of the converted system of equations. Also, the outturn of different parameters like Hartman number, the strength of lateral direction electric field, EDL (electric double layer) electrokinetic width, Joule heating parameters on the temperature, and velocity are investigated. The conversion of simple fluid to hybrid nanofluid has greatly alteration in the present model. It has enhanced the thermal properties of fluid. This attempt is useful for the designing of effectual electromagnetic appliances and exquisite.

Dissipated electroosmotic EMHD hybrid nanofluid flow through the micro-channel

In this article, electroosmotic flow of non-Newtonian fluids through a curved rectangular microchannel is studied numerically. The power-law model is used to simulate the rheological behavior of fluid. Moreover, the flow is assumed to be hydrodynamically fully developed and the walls carry high zeta potentials. To do so, the Poisson–Boltzmann equation without imposing the Debye–Huckel linear approximation is solved by applying the central difference scheme. Furthermore, the continuity and Cauchy momentum equations in the cylindrical coordinate system are solved using SIMPLE finite-volume method. Consequently, the effects of governing parameters such as flow behavior index, electrokinetic separation distance, curvature, zeta potential, and channel aspect ratio on the flow field and hydrodynamic characteristics are studied in details. The results show that the secondary flows which are created in shear-thinning fluid flows are stronger in comparison to that of shear-thickening and Newtonian fluid flows. Also, the variation of electrokinetic separation distance changes the secondary flow patterns in shear-thinning fluid flows, and it does not have a monotonic effect on the strength of secondary flows. Moreover, the obtained results for shear-thinning and Newtonian fluid flows indicate that the increasing of curvature, in addition to increasing the circulation strength considerably, also causes the volumetric flow rate to slightly increase. Furthermore, it is found that the increasing of zeta potential can be employed in shear-thinning fluid flows in order to significantly increase the volumetric flow rate and the performance of mixing. Additionally, it is observed that the increasing of channel aspect ratio leads to an increase in the circulation strength of shear-thinning fluid flow.

Electroosmotic flow of power-law fluids in curved rectangular microchannel with high zeta potentials

A fully developed steady immiscible flow of nanofluid in a two-layer microchannel is studied in the presence of electro-kinetic effects. Buongiorno’s model is employed for describing the behavior of nanofluids. Different from the previous studies on two-layer channel flow of a nanofluid, the present paper introduces the flux conservation conditions for the nanoparticle volume fraction field, which makes this work new and unique, and it is in coincidence with practical observations. The governing equations are reduced into a group of ordinary differential equations via appropriate similarity transformations. The highly accurate analytical approximations are obtained. Important physical quantities and total entropy generation are analyzed and discussed. A comparison is made to determine the significance of electrical double layer (EDL) effects in the presence of an external electric field. It is found that the Brownian diffusion, the thermophoresis diffusion, and the viscosity have significant effect on altering the flow behaviors.

In this article, we have studied effect of two types of solid nanoparticles (i.e., TiO
 $$_{2}$$
 and Cu) on the forced convective power law fluid flow through the annular sector duct. Finite volume method is used to transform governing nonlinear partial differential equations in algebraic form. A code is developed to solve resulting algebraic system of coupled equations with the help of strongly implicit procedure. Effect of concentration of solid nanoparticles on the velocity and temperature profiles is presented both in graphical and tabular form for different values of power law index. It has been observed that nanoparticles have pronounced effect in pseudo-plastic fluid as compared to dilatant fluid.
