Low-temperature charging of lithium-ion cells part I: Electrochemical modeling and experimental investigation of degradation behavior
TL;DR: In this paper, a 1D+1D (pseudo-2D) electrochemical model is developed, applied over a wide range of temperature ( T ǫ = −25 Ã −C to 40 Ã Ã ) and current ( I Ã = 0.1 Ã to 6 Ã ), coupled with a 0D thermal model.

Fast charging of an electric vehicle lithium-ion battery at the limit of the lithium deposition process
Johannes Sieg,Jochen Bandlow,Tim Mitsch,Daniel Dragicevic,Torben Materna,Bernd Spier,Heiko Witzenhausen,Heiko Witzenhausen,Madeleine Ecker,Madeleine Ecker,Dirk Uwe Sauer +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the charging process of a commercial high energy lithium-ion pouch cell is investigated, and three-electrode test cells are assembled using electrode materials from the high energy Li-ion battery cell together with lithium metal as reference electrode to acquire the potential at the negative electrode-electron electrode interface, and a state of charge of 80% is reached in 15min at 25°C ambient temperature.

Local degradation and differential voltage analysis of aged lithium-ion pouch cells
Johannes Sieg,Mathias Storch,Johannes Philipp Fath,Adnan Nuhic,Jochen Bandlow,Bernd Spier,Dirk Uwe Sauer,Dirk Uwe Sauer +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, a local post-mortem degradation analysis is performed on two differently cycled large-format pouch cells to improve the understanding of the underlying degradation mechanisms in a lithium-ion cell.

Quantification of aging mechanisms and inhomogeneity in cycled lithium-ion cells by differential voltage analysis
Johannes Philipp Fath,Daniel Dragicevic,Laura Bittel,Adnan Nuhic,Johannes Sieg,Severin Hahn,Lennart Alsheimer,Bernd Spier,Thomas Wetzel +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, a fit factor was introduced to describe the vanishing of peaks in the first derivative of the open circuit voltage curve in respect to state of charge, which can be used to quantify the loss of cyclable lithium and the decrease of electrode capacities.

Fast-charging capability of lithium-ion cells: Influence of electrode aging and electrolyte consumption
Johannes Sieg,Alexander Uwe Schmid,Laura Rau,Andreas Gesterkamp,Mathias Storch,Bernd Spier,Kai Peter Birke,Dirk Uwe Sauer,Dirk Uwe Sauer +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the influence of the main aging factors, such as electrode aging and electrolyte consumption, on the fast-charging capability of large format automotive lithium-ion pouch cells is investigated.
