N-acetyl-l-cysteine improves renal medullary hypoperfusion in acute renal failure
Erica López Conesa,Fernando Valero,José Carlos Nadal,Francisco J. Fenoy,Bernardo López,Begoña Arregui,Miguel G. Salom +6 more
TL;DR: NAC ameliorates the renal failure and the outer medullary vasoconstriction induced by ICVO, effects that seem to be dependent on the presence of NO and the scavenging of peroxynitrite.

2-Methoxyestradiol attenuates hypertension and coronary vascular remodeling in spontaneously hypertensive rats
Bárbara Bonacasa,M.L. Sanchez,Francisca Rodriguez,Bernardo López,Tomás Quesada,Francisco J. Fenoy,Isabel Hernández +6 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that 2-methoxyestradiol protects the vasculature from hypertension-induced myocardial arterial remodeling in male and ovarectomized SHR, and that might be in part related to decreased superoxide generation and ERK1/2 activation.

Sex differences in nitrosative stress during renal ischemia.
Francisca Rodriguez,Susana Nieto-Cerón,Francisco J. Fenoy,Bernardo López,Isabel Hernández,Raquel Rodado Martinez,Ma José González Soriano,Miguel G. Salom +7 more
TL;DR: Pretreatment with the antioxidants N-acetyl-L-cysteine or ebselen abolished sex differences in peroxynitrite, nitrotyrosine, and GFR, suggesting that a greater oxidative and nitrosative stress worsens renal damage in males.

Fetal Val108/158Met catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) polymorphism and placental COMT activity are associated with the development of preeclampsia
Miriam Pertegal,Francisco J. Fenoy,Moises Hernández,Jaime Mendiola,Juan L. Delgado,Bárbara Bonacasa,Andrés Corno,Bernardo López,Vicente Bosch,Isabel Hernández +9 more
TL;DR: Fetal Met-Met COMT genotype reduces COMT placental expression and activity in vitro and increases preeclampsia, risk but it does not explain the difference in maternal 2-ME levels between preeclamptic and normal pregnancies.

Enhancement of anion recognition exhibited by a zinc-imidazole-based ion-pair receptor composed of C-H hydrogen- and halogen-bond donor groups.
TL;DR: A 2-haloimidazole-tetraphenylethylene ion-pair receptor 1 is shown to recognise only HSO4- anions in the presence of a cobound Zn2+ cation guest species, which induced a remarkable increase with concomitant blue shift of the emission band of the complex [1·2Zn]4+ whereas no affinity of the free receptor 1 by the anions is observed.
