Mosquito aging modulates the development, virulence and transmission potential of pathogens
Bernard Some,Edwige Guissou,Dari F. Da,Quentin Richard,M. Choisy,Koudraogo B. Yameogo,Domombabele FdS Hien,Rakiswendé S. Yerbanga,Georges Anicet Ouedraogo,Kounbobr Roch Dabiré,Ramsès Djidjou-Demasse,Anna Cohuet,Thierry Lefèvre +12 more
TL;DR: This work examined the influence of mosquito age on key life-history traits driving human malaria transmission, revealing reduced competence in 12-day-old mosquitoes, characterized by lower oocyst/sporozoite rates and intensities compared to younger mosquitoes.

- 31 Dec 2025
TL;DR: Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) accurately identifies Anopheles gambiae species with 93% accuracy in laboratory-reared mosquitoes of constant age, but accuracy decreases to 59% in varying ages, and 73-83% in wild-caught mosquitoes.
Detection of Plasmodium falciparum in laboratory-reared and naturally infected wild mosquitoes using near-infrared spectroscopy
Dari F. Da,Ruth McCabe,Bernard Some,Pedro M. Esperança,Katarzyna A. Sala,Katarzyna A. Sala,Josua Blight,Andrew M. Blagborough,Floyd E. Dowell,Serge Yerbanga,Thierry Lefèvre,Karine Mouline,Roch K. Dabiré,Thomas S. Churcher +13 more
TL;DR: Investigation of the ability of NIRS to identify Plasmodium falciparum in Anopheles coluzzii mosquitoes finds sensitivity and specificity may be better in mosquitoes with higher numbers of parasites, but detection of infection appears restricted to homogenous groups of mosquitoes diminishing N IRS utility for detecting malaria within mosquitoes.
Anopheles aquatic development kinetic and adults’ longevity through different seasons in laboratory and semi-field conditions in Burkina Faso
Nicaise Djegbe,Dari F. Da,Bernard Some,Lawata Inès Géraldine Paré,Fatoumata Cissé,W. Mamai,K. Mouline,Simon P. Sawadogo,Joseph D. Challenger,Thomas S. Churcher,Roch K. Dabiré +10 more

TL;DR: The impact of temperature and relative humidity on immature stages and longevity of An.
Adapting field-mosquito collection techniques in a perspective of near-infrared spectroscopy implementation
Bernard Some,Dari F. Da,Ruth McCabe,Nicaise Djegbe,Lawata Inès Géraldine Paré,Kadidia Wermé,Karine Mouline,Thierry Lefèvre,Anicet G. Ouedraogo,Thomas S. Churcher,Roch K. Dabiré +10 more
TL;DR: In this article , the use of pyrethrum spray, a commercially available insecticide spray in Burkina Faso, for killing mosquitoes was investigated, and the results showed that NIRS can be used to classify An. gambiae s.l. species killed by pyrethrums spray with no loss of accuracy.
