An overview of recent applications of reduced graphene oxide as a basis of electroanalytical sensing platforms

The determination of 2-phenylphenol in the presence of 4-chlorophenol using nano-Fe3O4/ionic liquid paste electrode as an electrochemical sensor

Epirubicin is an effective anticancer drug, but naturally causes several side effects. Hence the determination of this drug in biological samples, plays a key role in evaluating its effects and side effects. In this research, a novel label-free DNA-based biosensor was fabricated for the analysis of epirubicin in biological samples. The sensor was fabricated through modifying a pencil graphite electrode with polypyrrole, nitrogen doped reduced graphene (for improving the electrical conductivity) and salmon sperm ds-DNA (PP/NrG/ds-DNA/PGE) and the changes in the electrode signal were used for the determination of epirubicin. The PP/NrG/ds-DNA/PGE showed a high sensitivity for epirubicin in the concentration range of 0.004–55.0 μM and had a detection limit of 1.0 nM. For further evaluations, the interactions between ds-DNA bases and epirubicin were investigated through a theoretical docking study and the obtained data confirmed the intercalation of epirubicin in the minor grooves of ds-DNA with guanine bases. The PP/NrG/ds-DNA/PGE was used for the analysis of epirubicin in injection and urine samples.

A new epirubicin biosensor based on amplifying DNA interactions with polypyrrole and nitrogen-doped reduced graphene: Experimental and docking theoretical investigations

Electrochemical enzyme-based biosensors are one of the largest and commercially successful groups of biosensors. Integration of nanomaterials in the biosensors results in significant improvement of biosensor sensitivity, limit of detection, stability, response rate and other analytical characteristics. Thus, new functional nanomaterials are key components of numerous biosensors. However, due to the great variety of available nanomaterials, they should be carefully selected according to the desired effects. The present review covers the recent applications of various types of nanomaterials in electrochemical enzyme-based biosensors for the detection of small biomolecules, environmental pollutants, food contaminants, and clinical biomarkers. Benefits and limitations of using nanomaterials for analytical purposes are discussed. Furthermore, we highlight specific properties of different nanomaterials, which are relevant to electrochemical biosensors. The review is structured according to the types of nanomaterials. We describe the application of inorganic nanomaterials, such as gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs), silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), and palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs), zeolites, inorganic quantum dots, and organic nanomaterials, such as single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), carbon and graphene quantum dots, graphene, fullerenes, and calixarenes. Usage of composite nanomaterials is also presented.
