An experimental study of the brittle-ductile transition of basalt at oceanic crust pressure and temperature conditions
Marie Violay,Marie Violay,Benoit Gibert,David Mainprice,Brian Evans,Jean-Marie Dautria,Pierre Azais,Philippe Pezard +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, deformation experiments on a glassy basalt and a glass-free basalt (GFB) under oceanic crust conditions were conducted, and it was shown that the strength is consistent with a Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion with an internal coefficient of friction of 0.42.
Thermal diffusivity of upper mantle rocks: Influence of temperature, pressure, and the deformation fabric
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured the thermal diffusivity of seven naturally deformed upper mantle rocks as a function of pressure (up to 1 GPa), temperature ( up to 1250 K), and the deformation fabric of the samples.
Effect of water on the frictional behavior of cohesive rocks during earthquakes
Marie Violay,Stefan Nielsen,Stefan Nielsen,Benoit Gibert,Elena Spagnuolo,Andrea Cavallo,Pierre Azais,Sergio Vinciguerra,G. Di Toro,G. Di Toro +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported the first results from experiments performed on cohesive silicate-bearing rocks (microgabbro) in the presence of pressurized pore fluids (H2O, drained conditions) at realistic seismic deformation conditions.

Brittle versus ductile deformation as the main control of the deep fluid circulation in oceanic crust
TL;DR: In this article, a series of deformation experiments on a natural basalt sample at in situ oceanic crust conditions was conducted to examine the brittle to ductile transition in oceanic basalt.
