Reactive Oxygen and Nitrogen Species in the Renal Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury
TL;DR: The mechanisms responsible for pathophysiologic alterations, including the role of heme oxygenase system and sex differences in the susceptibility to ischemic acute renal failure, are revised and the pre- and postconditioning phenomena, in which brief episodes of ischemia before (pre- conditioning) or after (post-conditioning) the prolonged ischemIA have a protective effect on AKI after reperfusion are reviewed.

2-Methoxyestradiol attenuates hypertension and coronary vascular remodeling in spontaneously hypertensive rats
Bárbara Bonacasa,M.L. Sanchez,Francisca Rodriguez,Bernardo López,Tomás Quesada,Francisco J. Fenoy,Isabel Hernández +6 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that 2-methoxyestradiol protects the vasculature from hypertension-induced myocardial arterial remodeling in male and ovarectomized SHR, and that might be in part related to decreased superoxide generation and ERK1/2 activation.

2-methoxyestradiol plasma levels are associated with clinical severity indices and biomarkers of preeclampsia.
Miriam Pertegal,Francisco J. Fenoy,Bárbara Bonacasa,Jaime Mendiola,Juan L. Delgado,Moises Hernández,Miguel G. Salom,Vicente Bosch,Isabel Hernández +8 more
TL;DR: Patients with PE had lower 2ME levels that were correlated with different clinical indices and biomarkers of severity, indicating that 2ME could be taken into account for the clinical management of this syndrome.

Effect of estrogen and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor on vascular remodeling in ovariectomized spontaneously hypertensive rats.
María Pérez García,Jose Giménez,Mar Serna,Miguel G. Salom,Bárbara Bonacasa,Luis F. Carbonell,Tomás Quesada,Isabel Hernández +7 more
TL;DR: Estrogen may enhance the angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibition-mediated improvement of vascular remodeling in hypertension, which may be partly mediated via inhibition of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2.

Plasma levels of Von Willebrand factor are increased in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
Francisco Cambronero,Juan Antonio Vílchez,Antonio García-Honrubia,Francisco Ruiz-Espejo,Victoria Moreno,Diana Hernández-Romero,Bárbara Bonacasa,Rocío González-Conejero,Gonzalo de la Morena,Pedro Miralles Martínez,Vicente Climent,Mariano Valdés,Francisco Marín +12 more
TL;DR: It is shown that for the first time, patients with HCM present significantly raised levels of Plasma von Willebrand factor, associated with different conditions related to the severity of the disease.
