An upper bound is estimated for the magnitude of potential exposure to nano-TiO2 with the purpose of enabling exposure assessment and, ultimately, risk assessment. Knowledge of the existing bulk TiO2 market is combined with available nano-TiO2 production data to estimate current nano-TiO2 sources as a baseline. The evolution of nano-TiO2 production as a percentage of the total TiO2 market is then projected based on material and market information along with a method that combines observations from scientific articles and patents as predictive indicators of the rate of innovative transformation.

Metal oxide nanoparticles (MONPs) have enormous applications such as in optical devices, purification systems, biomedical systems, photocatalysis, photovoltaics etc. In this review, we have explored a stable and efficient synthesis protocol of particularly four MONPs: titanium dioxide (TiO2), tin oxide (SnO2), tungsten oxide (WO3) and zinc oxide (ZnO) for getting desired chemical composition, nanostructure, and surface properties. The selection of an efficient synthesis process is a key factor that significantly influences the efficacy of the MONPs. The chemical synthesis of nanoparticles (NPs) via sol–gel route is an effective method to produce high-quality MONPs in comparison to other physical and chemical methods. Sol–gel synthesis is one of the simple, fastest and economically less expensive method, and has its own advantages like low processing temperature, homogeneity of the produced material and formation of the complex structures or composite materials. We believe that this detailed review will provide an insight into sol–gel synthesis of MONPs along with their characterization and diverse applications.

Preparation and characterization of nano-TiO2 powder

This paper reports the results of an investigation aiming at finding what affects the grain size of nano-TiO2 powder during synthesis. Nano-sized TiO2 powders have been prepared by a sol–gel method. The crystalline structures and morphologies of the powder have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The result shows that the different preparation conditions such as concentration, pH value, calcination time and calcination temperature have a lot of influences upon the properties of nano-TiO2 powders. The smallest grain size of TiO2 powder we have obtained is 6 nm by controlling the process conditions.

Preparation and Characterization of Nano-TiO2 Powder

SrBi2Nb2O9 (SBN) with different Bi2O3 contents were prepared by solid-state reaction method and then spark plasma sintering. The Influence of Bi2O3 on the properties of SBN was studied. The results showed that the increased Bi2O3 contents can enhance densification and improve the dielectric properties. This might have close relation to the low melting point of Bi2O3 and special sintering way of SPS, which usually results in some change in micro-structure.
