TL;DR: The experimental creation of a solid-density plasma at temperatures in excess of 106 kelvin on inertial-confinement timescales using an X-ray free-electron laser is reported and insights are obtained into the evolution of the charge state distribution of the system, the electron density and temperature, and the timescale of collisional processes.

Orbital and spin moments of 5 to 11 nm Fe3O4 nanoparticles measured via x-ray magnetic circular dichroism
Yanping Cai,Karine Chesnel,Matea Trevino,Andrew S. Westover,Roger G. Harrison,Jared M. Hancock,S. Turley,A. Scherz,Alexander H. Reid,B. Wu,Catherine Graves,Tianhan Wang,Tianmin Liu,Hermann A. Dürr +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the orbital and spin contributions to the magnetic moment of Fe3O4 nanoparticles were measured using X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) using vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM).

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the opacity broadening of the fluorescence radiation emitted by hot, dense plasma, which is created as a result of the X-radiation focussed onto a solid target, and in particular present calculations of the broadening in a solid-density aluminium target, produced when the FEL photon energy is tuned below the Al K-edge, but is resonant with the Kα transition.

Elimination of X-Ray Diffraction through Stimulated X-Ray Transmission.
B. Wu,Tianhan Wang,Catherine Graves,Diling Zhu,William F. Schlotter,Joshua J. Turner,Olav Hellwig,Zhao Chen,H. A. Dürr,A. Scherz,Joachim Stöhr +10 more
TL;DR: The experimental results reveal the exquisite sensitivity of single-shot charge and magnetic diffraction patterns of a magnetic film to the onset of field-induced stimulated elastic x-ray forward scattering, in remarkable quantitative agreement with a recent theory that is extended to include diffraction.
