The current status of the large decameter radio telescope UTR-2 (Ukrainian T-shaped Radio telescope) together with its VLBI system called URAN is described in detail. By modernization of these instruments through implementation of novel versatile analog and digital devices as well as new observation techniques, the observational capabilities of UTR-2 have been substantially enhanced. The total effective area of UTR-2 and URAN arrays reaches 200 000 m2, with 24 MHz observational bandwidth (within the 8–32 MHz frequency range), spectral and temporal resolutions down to 4 kHz and 0.5 msec in dynamic spectrum mode or virtually unlimited in waveform mode. Depending on the spectral and temporal resolutions and confusion effects, the sensitivity of UTR-2 varies from a few Jy to a few mJy, and the angular resolution ranges from ~ 30 arcminutes (with a single antenna array) to a few arcseconds (in VLBI mode). In the framework of national and international research projects conducted in recent years, many new results on Solar system objects, the Galaxy and Metagalaxy have been obtained. In order to extend the observation frequency range to 8–80 MHz and enlarge the dimensions of the UTR-2 array, a new instrument – GURT (Giant Ukrainian Radio Telescope) – is now under construction. The radio telescope systems described herein can be used in synergy with other existing low-frequency arrays such as LOFAR, LWA, NenuFAR, as well as provide ground-based support for space-based instruments.

3 Abstract: Solar radio emission has become increasingly interested in attempts to understand the Sun activities during maximum and minimum cycle. Present work deals with Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) testing measurement for the solar monitoring purpose. The progress of CALLISTO network is also being discussed. Implications of the results for large scale of CALLISTO coverage are reviewed. Observational tests of Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) are also explained. In short, we conclude that National Space Centre, Sg. Lang, Selangor Malaysia is one of the strategic countries to monitor the Sun due to consistent 12hours per day throughout the year. When a module of subtraction of RFI automatically implemented for each data, one can study the evolution of solar bursts and further predict the behavior of solar flare other solar activity phenomena.

Coverage of Solar Radio Spectrum in Malaysia and Spectral Overview of Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) by Using CALLISTO Spectrometer from 1MHz to 900 MHz

Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) have important connections to various types of radio emissions from the Sun. The persistent noise storm radiation (type I storm at metric wavelengths, type III storms at longer wavelengths) can be clearly interrupted by the occurrence of a CME in the active region that produces the storm. Sometimes the noise storm completely disappears and other times, it reappears in the active region. Long-lasting type III bursts are associated with CME eruption, thought to be due to the reconnection process taking place beneath the erupting CME. Type II bursts are indicative of electron acceleration in the CME-driven shocks and hence considered to be the direct response of the CME propagation in the corona and interplanetary medium. Finally type IV bursts indicate large-scale post-eruption arcades containing trapped electrons that produce radio emission. This paper summarizes some key results that connect CMEs to various types of radio emission and what we can learn about particle acceleration in the corona) and interplanetary medium. Particular emphasis will be placed on type If bursts because of their connection to interplanetary shocks detected in situ.

Coronal Mass Ejections and Solar Radio Emissions

On the Occurrence of Type IV Solar Radio Bursts in Solar Cycle 24 and Their Association with Coronal Mass Ejections

Solar activity, in particular coronal mass ejections (CMEs), are often accompanied by bursts of radiation at metre wavelengths. Some of these bursts have a long duration and extend over a wide frequency band, namely, type IV radio bursts. However, the association of type IV bursts with coronal mass ejections is still not well understood. In this article, we perform the first statistical study of type IV solar radio bursts in the solar cycle 24. Our study includes a total of 446 type IV radio bursts that occurred during this cycle. Our results show that a clear majority, $\sim 81 \%$ of type IV bursts, were accompanied by CMEs, based on a temporal association with white-light CME observations. However, we found that only $\sim 2.2 \%$ of the CMEs are accompanied by type IV radio bursts. We categorised the type IV bursts as moving or stationary based on their spectral characteristics and found that only $\sim 18 \%$ of the total type IV bursts in this study were moving type IV bursts. Our study suggests that type IV bursts can occur with both `Fast' ($\geq 500$ km/s) and `Slow' ($< 500$ km/s), and also both `Wide' ($\geq 60^{\circ}$) and `Narrow' ($< 60^{\circ}$) CMEs. However, the moving type IV bursts in our study were mostly associated with `Fast' and `Wide' CMEs ($\sim 52 \%$), similar to type II radio bursts. Contrary to type II bursts, stationary type IV bursts have a more uniform association with all CME types.

On the occurrence of type IV solar radio bursts in the solar cycle 24 and their association with coronal mass ejections

According to the special Program of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, creation of the new giant Ukrainian radio telescope (GURT) was started a few years ago on the UTR-2 radio telescope observatory. The main goal is to reach maximum band at the lowest frequencies (10-70 MHz), effective area (step-by-step up to 100,000 sq.m), and high interference immunity for resolving many astrophysical tasks when the sensitivity is less limited by the confusion effects. These tasks include stellar radio astronomy (the Sun, solar wind, flare stars, pulsars, transients) and planetary one (Jupiter, planetary lightnings, Earth ionosphere, the Moon, exoplanets). This array should be complementary to the LOFAR, E-LOFAR systems. The first stages of the GURT (6 x 25 cross-dipole active elements) and broad-band digital registration of the impulsive and sporadic events were tested in comparison with the existing largest decameter array UTR-2.

The results of the first observations of Type IV bursts at frequencies 10-30 MHz are presented. These observations were carried out at radio telescopes UTR-2 (Kharkov, Ukraine) and URAN-2 (Poltava, Ukraine) during the period 2003-2006. Detection of Type IV bursts in wide band from 10 to 30MHz with high sensitivity and time resolution allowed to study their properties in details. These bursts have fluxes 10-2000s.f.u. at maximum phase. Their durations are about 1-2 hours and even more. Some of Type IV bursts drift from high to low frequencies with drift rates about 10kHz/s. All observed Type IV bursts have fine structures in the form of sub-bursts with durations from 2s to 20s and frequency drift rates in a majority of 1-2MHz/s. In most cases, sub-bursts with negative drift rates were registered. Sometimes sub-bursts in absorption with durations 10-200s against Type IV burst background have been observed. The Type IV burst observed on July 22, 2004 had zebra structure, in which single zebra stripes had positive, negative and infinite drift rates.
