Gyrotron Development in the EU for Present Fusion Experiments and for ITER
Manfred Thumm,S. Alberti,Andreas Arnold,D. Bariou,G. Dammertz,C. Darbos,Olgierd Dumbrajs,G. Gantenbein,V. Erckmann,E. Giguet,R. Heidinger,J. P. Hogge,S. Illy,J. Jin,W. Kasparek,C. Lievin,R. Magne,G. Michel,B. Piosczyk,O. Prinz,T. Rzesnicki,K. Schwörer,M. Q. Tran,Xiaokang Yang,I. Yovchev +24 more
- 03 Jan 2006
TL;DR: The long term strategy of the EU in the field of gyrotrons in fusion plasma applications is based on two approaches: R&D in laboratories to develop advanced concepts and industrial development of state-of-the-art tubes for use in present experiments like TCV, Tore Supra (118 GHz, 0.5 MW, CW) and W7-X (140 GHz, 1 MW,CW) as mentioned in this paper.

Frequency-step-tunable high-power gyrotron for plasma physics applications
G. Dammertz,O. Dumbrajs,K. Koppenburg,B. Piosczyk,M. Thumm +4 more
- 24 May 1999
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss how to tune the frequency of a high-power gyrotron in large-scale fusion machines, where the magnetic field in large stellarators and tokamaks considerably changes over the distance from the plasma center to its boarder.

Development of Advanced High Power Gyrotrons for EC H&CD Applications in Fusion Plasmas
B. Piosczyk,A. Arnold,E. Borie,G. Dammertz,Olgierd Dumbrajs,R. Heidinger,S. Illy,J. Jin,K. Koppenburg,G. Michel,T. Rzesnicki,Manfred Thumm,X. Yang +12 more
- 01 Jan 2004
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the results of a study of the effects of high frequency frequencies on the performance of the Piosczyk beamforming method in the presence of a particle filter.

ITER ECRF window development: CVD-Diamond Window
M. Thumm,R. Heidinger,A. Arnold,M. Blumhofer,S. Illy,Andreas Meier,B. Piosczyk,M. Rohde,R. Schneider,P. Severloh +9 more
- 01 Jan 2002
TL;DR: In this paper, a CVD-diamond window disk was irradiated with a neutron fluence of almost 10 2 1 n/m 2 and then brazed to two Inconel waveguide cuffs.

TL;DR: In this article, the feasibility for manufacturing a continuously operated high power coaxial cavity gyrotron has been demonstrated and all needed data for an industrial design has been obtained, based on this results the fabrication of a first prototype of a 2 MW, CW, 170 GHz coaxial cavity gyroron started recently in cooperation between European research institutions and European tube industry.
