STUDIES ON THE EFFECT OF PLANT GROWTH REGULATORS ON GROWTH, FLOWER YIELD AND QUALITY OF AFRICAN MARIGOLD (Tagetes erecta L.) UNDER CHHATTISGARH PLAINS

Production of marigold can be improved to a large extent by the judicious cultural operations i.e. application of optimum fertilizer at required time, crop management practices and use of plant growth regulators. Hence, an experiment was carried out in the Research Farm of Adhiparasakthi Horticultural College, Kalavai, during 2018-19 to find out the effect of plant growth regulators (NAA, GA3) and growth retardants (Maleic hydrazide, Alar) on growth and yield of African marigold var. Pusa Narangi Gainda. The experiment was conducted in randomized block design with three replications. Biometric observations on plant height, number of branches, number of leaves, leaf area, days to first flowering, flower head diameter, single flower weight, number of flowers per plant, flower yield per plant and Xanthophyll content were recorded at 90 days after planting and statistically analyzed. Results of the experiment revealed that among the growth hormones tested, considering the flower yield per plant, the treatment with NAA @ 150 ppm recorded for the maximum number of flowers with increased flower weight resulted in maximizing the flower yield (447.2 g plant-1) with xanthophyll content (18.80 kg-1 of petal meal (g)).

Studies on the Effect of Plant Growth Regulators on Growth, Flowering and Xanthophyll Content of African Marigold (Tagetes erecta L.)

Dianthus caryophyllus L., which belongs to the family Caryophyllaceae having a diploid chromosome number, 2n=30 is native to the Mediterranean region. Even though the popularity, the commercial growers faces certain practical difficulties, among that, the main is apical dominance. Carnation is preferred to roses and chrysanthemums by several exporting countries, on account of its excellent keeping quality, wide range of forms and colours and ability to withstand long distance transportation. Cut carnations, roses and chrysanthemums contribute close to 50% of the world cut flower trade (Kiss et al., 2001).Apical dominance is one of the serious problems for commercial carnation growers, as it does not permit the lateral buds to develop, resulting in a limited number of lateral branches and flowers (Pathania et al., 2000). Commonly in carnation, the length of the shoot is another problem. Effect of Plant Growth Retardants on Carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus L. var. Orange viana) in Prayagraj Agro-climatic Condition

An experiment was carried out to access the effect of different doses of Cycocel and Maleic hydrazide on growth and flowering of African marigold (Tagetes erecta L.) cv. Pusa narangi gainda at Horticultural Research Center (HRC) of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Modipuram, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh during the year 2019-2020. The investigation was laid out in Randomized Block Design (RBD) with nine treatments and three replications. The results indicated that among the treatments, minimum plant height with the application of MH 250 ppm (57.03 cm), plant spread of east to west (45.17 cm), plant spread north to south (46.40 cm), the number of branches per plant (37.61), Days taken to first flower bud initiation (54.60 days), days has taken to opening of first flower (67.21 days), days have taken to opening of 50% flowering (83.72 days), duration of flowering (78.22 days), The study revealed that the number of branches and flowering duration significant higher than control and other treatment the height of plant also decrease. Title Analyzing the Effect of Different Doses of Cycocel and Maleic Hydrazide on Growth and Flowering of Tagetes erecta L. cv. Pusa Narangi Gainda (African Marigold)

: Gardenia is one of the important indoor plants in the flower market. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of different concentrations of cycocel (0, 1500, 3000, and 4500 ppm) on vegetative growth, flowering and pigments content of Gardenia jasminoides J. Ellis plant. Treatment with high concentrations of cycocel (4500ppm) led to a significant decrease in plant height and a reduction of fresh and dry weight, while it increased branching in contrast to low concentrations and control. Moreover, spraying with cycocel at rates of 4500 and 3000 ppm enhanced early flowering. The highest values of number of flowers were especially by spraying plants with 4500 ppm of cycocel, followed by plants treated with cycocel at a rate of 3000 ppm. Accordingly, the highest value of fresh and dry weights of flowers was due to treatment with cycocel moderate rate of 3000 ppm. Furthermore, the contents of chlorophyll and carotenoids were upgraded in plants sprayed with cycocel at all concentrations used.
