Storage in cloud computing is the fundamental service which is widely used by consumers of cloud. Cloud offer many advantages such as flexibility, elasticity, scalability and sharing of data among users. However, cloud storage throws many privacy and security challenges. Especially, the most significant problem is access control mechanism which ensures sharing of dataonly to authorized users. Most of the cloud service providers offer Role Based Access Control (RBAC) where users are grouped into roles and access is given to resources based on roles. The problem with this scheme is that once a role gets access to a resource, further restrictions are not possible, where there are security limitations for which data owner needs to restrict access to a part of an object but not entire object. This work proposes to useSwift, an object storage service in open source cloud named OpenStack. Swift restricts access to objects using Access Control Lists (ACLs). As per ACL, users can gain access to an object. However, once access is given, users can access the complete object without further restrictions. The proposed work is evaluated in real cloud environment Amazon cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Open stack cloud. A framework termed Predicate Based Access Control (PBAC) is proposed to render fine grained access control to Swift storage. Access is provided to predicates that are part of an object. Instead of following an “all or nothing” approach, an access control mechanism that makes the Swift storage and retrieval more secure is preferred.

Although elasticity and flexibility brings tremendous benefits, it still raises many information security challenges that have created a barrier against adopting this agile Cloud computing. This paper provides a review study on the cloud computing as well identifying 25-key factors to fulfil better practice in cloud computing and way of making the environment of the cloud computing more qualified to many organizations agencies.

Approved client-server authentication mechanisms are described for the IVOA single-sign-on profile: No Authentication; HTTP Basic Authentication; TLS with passwords; TLS with client certificates; Cookies; Open Authentication; Security Assertion Markup Language; OpenID. Normative rules are given for the implementation of these mechanisms, mainly by reference to pre-existing standards. The Authorization mechanisms are out of the scope of this document.

The Virtual Observatory (VO) represents a successful international enterprise providing interoperability of data collections, thus allowing the possibility of multi-frequency and multi-messenger research. The Big Data era, that astrophysics has stepped into, is forcing scientists to perform data-intensive research. This new concept requires an evolution of the VO concept to provide additional services, in order to transform the VO: from sets of interoperable data to an integrated system of services capable of supporting data-intensive science.

Cloud access to interoperable IVOA-compliant VOSpace storage

Handling, processing and archiving the huge amount of data produced by the new generation of experiments and instruments in Astronomy and Astrophysics are among the more exciting challenges to address in designing the future data management infrastructures and computing services. We investigated the feasibility of a data management and computation infrastructure, available world-wide, with the aim of merging the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data management provided by IVOA standards with the efficiency and reliability of a cloud approach. Our work involved the Canadian Advanced Network for Astronomy Research (CANFAR) infrastructure and the European EGI federated cloud (EFC). We designed and deployed a pilot data management and computation infrastructure that provides IVOA-compliant VOSpace storage resources and wide access to interoperable federated clouds. In this paper, we detail the main user requirements covered, the technical choices and the implemented solutions and we describe the resulting Hybrid cloud Worldwide infrastructure, its benefits and limitations.
