An ultra-wideband (UWB) bandpass filter based on transversal signal-interaction concepts is proposed. By cascading a planar Marchand balun and two transmission lines with different electrical lengths, a new UWB bandpass filter (fractional bandwidth 86-111.5%) with two transmission zeros close to the passband is realised. Good agreement is observed between the simulated and measured results.

Ultra-wideband bandpass filter based on transversal signal-interaction concepts

A compact ultra-wideband (UWB) bandpass filter (BPF) based on transversal signal-interaction concepts is proposed in this letter. Two transmission paths with a wideband double-sided parallel-strip line (DSPSL) 180° swap and a 3λ/4 transmission line are used to transmit signal from Port 1 to Port 2. Two λ/4 shorted lines are introduced to improve the passband transmission characteristic. Two transmission zeros and good harmonic suppression can be achieved in the whole band. One prototype with 3-dB fractional bandwidth of 108% (1.35-4.6 GHz) is fabricated for demonstration, and good agreement is observed between simulated and measured performances.

Compact DSPSL ultra-wideband bandpass filter based on transversal signal-interaction concepts

This paper presents the design of wideband and ultrawideband 90° phase shifters using coupled-line sections and low-pass/bandpass/high-pass networks with inductors and capacitors. By relaxing the tight-coupling requirement, the proposed phase shifters are realized with much easier fabrication process. It is demonstrated how the embedded low-pass/bandpass/high-pass networks make the phase shifters wideband. The fabricated phase shifters with low-pass, bandpass, and high-pass networks using discrete elements achieve the operating bandwidths of 44%, 83%, and 107%, respectively. Later, discrete elements are replaced by their equivalent short and open microstrip lines to make the system monolithic and more reliable, especially at higher frequencies. The measured results show approximately equal bandwidths of 40%, 87%, and 94% for the phase shifters with low-pass, bandpass, and high-pass networks, respectively.

Wideband and Ultrawideband Phase Shifter Designs Based on Low-Pass/Bandpass/High-Pass Networks

The purpose of this paper is to propose a novel generalized single-band transformer for two arbitrary complex load and source impedances and a novel high-power amplifler using this new transformer. By adding two reactive parts at across terminals, the coupled line with ∞exible electrical length has practical even- and odd-mode characteristic impedances. Thus, the total circuit layout can be realized on common printed circuit board without any restriction. The synthesis theory of this proposed transformer is complete and analytical. Furthermore, unlike conventional quarter- wavelength transformers, this structure exhibits four main features such as efiective matching for extremely low-resistive load impedance, efiective matching for extremely high-resistive load impedance, tunable characteristic for equivalent electrical length and inherent DC-block function. For theoretical veriflcation, several impedance transformers, which include some flxed operating-frequency cases and a tunable case, for smaller than 7Ohm or larger than 1500Ohm, are presented. As a typical experimental example, this analyzed transformer with inherent DC-block function has been applied in a 4-Watt power amplifler as output matching structure.

A Novel High-Power Amplifier Using a Generalized Coupled-Line Transformer with Inherent DC-Block Function

A novel hybrid coupler aiming for wide-band applications is proposed in this paper. This hybrid coupler consists of a broadband Wilkinson coupled-line power divider and an improved wide-band coupled-line phase shifter. Taking advantage of the coupled-line section, the power divider achieves both compact circuit configuration and wide-band performance. In lieu of patterned ground plane and lumped capacitors, the coupled-line phase shifter can be constructed on a single-layer printed circuit board for wide-band operation. For this proposed phase shifter, the scattering parameters (S-parameters) expressions are derived and the optimal structural design parameters for achieving zero reflection coefficients are highlighted. A Novel Wide-Band Hybrid Coupler Using Coupled-Line Power Divider and Improved Coupled-Line Phase Shifter

In a standard Schiffman phase shifter a coupled section and a uniform transmission line are used to give a differential phase shift. In order to achieve larger bandwidth, it is necessary to use tight coupled sections which are difficult to realize especially high phase shift and low permittivity. In this paper, an improved wide-band 90° Schiffman phase shifter is presented by using a back to back microstrip line. In this design, the gap of the coupled lines is larger for matching the microstrip back to back than the coupling between the two transmission lines (coupled and uncoupled) can be neglected. Therefore the size of the Schiffman phase shifter can be reduced. Compared with the former microstrip multisection coupled-line configuration, our newly proposed planar one with back-to-back microstrip line is small in size and, meanwhile, has a good performance.
