Impact of opencast coal mining on water environment - a case study
B. B. Dhar,S. Ratan,Aarif Jamal +2 more
- 01 Dec 1986
TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of large-scale opencast coal mining operations on water quality in the Singrauli coal mine in India is investigated and water quality degradation in and around the mine is assessed.

Acid-Base Accounting: A Geochemical Tool for Management of Acid Drainage in Coal Mines
TL;DR: In this paper, the acid mine water was allowed to drain through friable, alkaline sandstone to neutralize the mine water and the acid producing or acid neutralizing rocks were identified.

Air pollution problems in an Indian opencast coal mining complex: A case study
B. B. Dhar,Aarif Jamal,S. Ratan +2 more
TL;DR: The air quality survey in an opencast (openpit) coal mining complex has revealed that the problem of air pollution is significant in the mining area, and therefore calls for irrroediate mitigation measures as discussed by the authors.

Predicting drainage quality for sustainable exploitation of coal
TL;DR: In this paper, a technique has been suggested to know the quality of mine drainage even before the start of mining operation, where coal and associated rock samples are collected from the mine site and the mineralogical composition and geochemical character of each rock type occurring at the site are determined.
