The Effect of a Thymidine Phosphorylase Inhibitor on Angiogenesis and Apoptosis in Tumors
Shigeto Matsushita,Takao Nitanda,Tatsuhiko Furukawa,Tomoyuki Sumizawa,Ayako Tani,Kengo Nishimoto,Suminori Akiba,Kazutaka Miyadera,Masakazu Fukushima,Yuji Yamada,Hiroki Yoshida,Tamotsu Kanzaki,Shin-ichi Akiyama +12 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that the expression of TP plays an important role in tumor growth and that TPI suppresses tumor growth by increasing the proportion of apoptotic cells and probably inhibiting angiogenesis.

Function of P-Glycoprotein Expressed in Placenta and Mole
Yukihiko Nakamura,Shun-ichi Ikeda,Tatsuhiko Furukawa,Tomoyuki Sumizawa,Ayako Tani,Shin-ichi Akiyama,Yukihiro Nagata +6 more
TL;DR: Findings indicate that P-glycoprotein expressed in trophoblasts has a drug binding site(s) and the ability to transport vincristine, suggesting that P -glycop protein in the placenta protects the fetus from xenobiotics and confers drug resistance on moles.

Prevention of Hypoxia-Induced Apoptosis by the Angiogenic Factor Thymidine Phosphorylase☆
Masaki Kitazono,Yuji Takebayashi,Kenji Ishitsuka,Sonshin Takao,Ayako Tani,Tatsuhiko Furukawa,Kazutaka Miyadera,Yuji Yamada,Takashi Aikou,Shin-ichi Akiyama +9 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that TP can confer resistance to apoptosis induced by hypoxia and the degradation products of thymidine are involved in this resistance.

Reversal of multidrug resistance-associated protein-mediated drug resistance by the pyridine analog PAK-104P.
Tomoyuki Sumizawa,Zhe-Sheng Chen,Yutaka Chuman,Kiyotomo Seto,Tatsuhiko Furukawa,Misako Haraguchi,Ayako Tani,Norimasa Shudo,Shin-ichi Akiyama +8 more
TL;DR: PAK-104P can completely reverse the resistance to VCR in both P-Gp- and MRP-mediated multidrug-resistant cells and that PAK- 104P directly interacts with MRP and inhibits the transporting activity of MRP.

Expression of functional lung resistance--related protein predicts poor outcome in adult T-cell leukemia.
Nobuhito Ohno,Ayako Tani,Kimiharu Uozumi,Shuichi Hanada,Tatsuhiko Furukawa,Suminori Akiba,Tomoyuki Sumizawa,Atae Utsunomiya,Terukatsu Arima,Shin-ichi Akiyama +9 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that functionally active LRP is expressed in some ATL cells and that it is involved in drug resistance and poor prognosis in ATL.
