Genetic polymorphisms and expression of Rhesus blood group RHCE are associated with 2,3-bisphosphoglycerate in humans at high altitude
A. D’Alessandro,Eric J Earley,Travis Nemkov,D. Stephenson,Monika Dzieciatkowska,Kirk C. Hansen,Giampaolo Minetti,B. Champigneulle,Emeric Stauffer,Aurélien Pichon,Michael Furian,Samuel Verges,Steven Kleinman,Philip J Norris,Michael P. Busch,Grier P Page,Lars Kaestner +16 more
TL;DR: A genome-wide association study using BPG levels as a quantitative trait identified genetic polymorphisms in the region coding for the Rhesus blood group RHCE as critical determinants of BPG levels in erythrocytes from healthy human volunteers.

Hairy cell leukemia with isolated bone lesions
Laura Cailly,Cécile Gruchet,Elsa Maitre,Stéphanie Guidez,Vincent Delwail,Thomas Systchenko,Niels Moya,Florence Sabirou,A Levy,Arthur Bobin,Helene Gardeney,Laly Nsiala,Mathilde Vonfeld,Aurélia Chacon,Aurélien Pichon,Sabrina Bouyer,Caroline Basle,Jean-Claude Chomel,Anna Raimbault,Xavier Troussard,Cécile Tomowiak +20 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors show that PET/CT has clinical relevance in HCL at diagnosis and for the follow-up of patients treated, especially in case of atypical presentations such as bone involvements (which are probably underestimated) and poor bone marrow infiltration.

Excessive Erythrocytosis Is Not Associated With Altered Iron Homeostasis in Men From the World’s Highest City
Gaetano Cairo,B. Champigneulle,Margherita Correnti,Elena Gammella,Stefania Recalcati,Domenico Girelli,Annalisa Castagna,Anne-Kristine Meinild Lundby,Ivan Hancco,C. Chirica,Dorra Guergour,Laura Oberholzer,Emeric Stauffer,Carsten Lundby,Aurélien Pichon,Julien V. Brugniaux,Stéphane Doutreleau,Samuel Verges,Paul Robach +18 more
TL;DR: In this article , the authors explored how iron homeostasis adapts to chronic exposure to hypoxia in polycythemic residents from the world's highest city, La Rinconada, located at 5100 m, both with and without chronic mountain sickness (CMS), and found that excessive erythrocytosis was accompanied by increased EPO9 and soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR) levels.

Hemoglobin Mass Determination: Exploring Carboxyhemoglobin Stability and Analyzer Interchangeability.
Janne Bouten,Johan Garcia,Romain Carin,Elie Nader,Aurélien Pichon,Paul Robach,P. Connes,Franck Brocherie +7 more
Making a virtue out of an evil: Are red blood cells from chronic mountain sickness patients eligible for transfusions?
Emeric Stauffer,Aurélien Pichon,B. Champigneulle,M. Furian,Ivan Hancco,Alexis Darras,Paul Robach,Julien V Brugniaux,Elie Nader,Philippe Connes,Samuel Verges,Lars Kaestner +11 more
TL;DR: While there were differences in systemic parameters such as blood oxygen content, hematocrit, hemoglobin concentration, and blood viscosity, the mechanical and rheological properties of single red blood cells did not differ between the two investigated groups.
