Ring trial of 2nd generation RT‐QuIC diagnostic tests for sporadic CJD
Christina D. Orrú,Bradley R. Groveman,Aaron Foutz,Matilde Bongianni,Franco Cardone,Neil McKenzie,Audrey Culeux,Anna Poleggi,Katarina Grznarova,Daniela Perra,Michele Fiorini,Xiaoqin Liu,Anna Ladogana,Marco Sbriccoli,Andrew G. Hughson,Stéphane Haïk,Alison Green,Michael D. Geschwind,Maurizio Pocchiari,Jiri G. Safar,Gianluigi Zanusso,Byron Caughey +21 more
TL;DR: A multi‐center evaluation (ring trial) of the reproducibility of the improved “second generation” RT‐QuIC assays as applied to these diagnostic specimens is presented.

Concordance of cerebrospinal fluid real‐time quaking‐induced conversion across the European Creutzfeldt–Jakob Disease Surveillance Network
Neil McKenzie,Gabriele Piconi,Audrey Culeux,Anna-Lena Hammarin,Christos Stergiou,Socrates J. Tzartos,Alexandra A M Versleijen,J. van de Geer,Patrick Cras,Franco Cardone,Anna Ladogana,Angela Mannana,Marcello Rossi,Matilde Bongianni,Daniela Perra,Guenther Regelsberger,Sigrid Klotz,Simone Hornemann,Adriano Aguzzi,Matthias Schmitz,Mary Andrews,Kimberley Burns,Stéphane Haïk,Raquel Ruiz-García,Jenny Verner-Carlsson,John S. TL;DR: The aim of this ring‐trial was to ascertain the degree of concordance between European countries undertaking CSF RT‐QuIC.
Evaluation of the protection of primates transfused with variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease-infected blood products filtered with prion removal devices: a 5-year update.
Nathalie Lescoutra-Etchegaray,Nina Jaffré,Chryslain Sumian,Valérie Durand,Evelyne Correia,Jacqueline Mikol,Sophie Luccantoni-Freire,Audrey Culeux,Jean-Philippe Deslys,Emmanuel Comoy +9 more
TL;DR: Analysis of archived appendix samples reveals that one in 2000 individuals in the United Kingdom may carry the infectious prion protein associated with variant Creutzfeldt‐Jakob disease (vCJD), raising questions about the risk of transfusion transmission from apparently healthy carriers.

Detection and partial discrimination of atypical and classical bovine spongiform encephalopathies in cattle and primates using real-time quaking-induced conversion assay.
Etienne Levavasseur,Anne-Gaëlle Biacabe,Emmanuel Comoy,Audrey Culeux,Katarina Grznarova,Nicolas Privat,Steve Simoneau,Benoit Flan,Véronique Sazdovitch,Danielle Seilhean,Thierry Baron,Stéphane Haïk +11 more
TL;DR: The RT-QuIC assay appears as a practical means for a reliable detection of atypical BSE strains in a homologous or heterologous PrP context.
Removal of exogenous prion infectivity in leukoreduced red blood cells unit by a specific filter designed for human transfusion
Nathalie Lescoutra-Etchegaray,Chryslain Sumian,Audrey Culeux,Valérie Durand,Patrick V. Gurgel,Jean-Philippe Deslys,Emmanuel Comoy +6 more
TL;DR: In the absence of available antemortem diagnostic tests, the updated prevalence of silent vCJD infections (1/2000 in the United Kingdom) urges the necessity to enforce blood safety with more efficient active measures able to remove the remaining infectivity.
