Schiff bases are an extensive group of materials which have a carbon–nitrogen double bond (–C = N–). The present review gives a perspective on this class of compounds by highlighting the significance of various types of tridentate ONO pyridyl Schiff base ligands and their corresponding metal complexes. The review focuses on the reactions of salicylaldehyde and its derivatives with different acylhydrazides, such as picolinohydrazide, nicotinohydrazide and isonicotinohydrazide, in which the single crystal structures of the resulting products have been reported in the last two decades (2002–2022). This class of Schiff bases show amide-iminol tautomerism, in which the carbon–nitrogen double bond is a component of the iminol tautomer. The molecular structure, spectral analysis and applications of ONO pyridyl Schiff base complexes are covered in this article.

In this work, the Schiff base 1-(6-(1-((4-(4-aminophenoxy)phenyl)imino)ethyl)-pyridin-2-yl)ethan-1-one (L) and eight transition metal complexes were synthesized. The reaction of 4,4-oxy-dianiline with 2,6-diacetylpyridine in 1:1 molar ratio affords to the ligand which was employed in the synthesis of the corresponding metal complexes by reacting with the Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) chlorides in 1:1 molar ratio. All the compounds were characterized by using different analytical methods. Structures of complexes were found to be octahedral as deduced from the spectroscopic and magnetic moment measurements. The ligand behaves as a neutral tridentate ligand where it coordinated to metal ions through N-azomethine, N-pyridine, and O-carbonyl group. Besides, experimental investigations for their antibacterial activity against different bacteria species were studied, molecular docking studies were reported with receptors 4ME7, 4K3V, 3T88 and 4WJ3. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations for ligand were reported. Finally, the evaluation of corrosion inhibition efficiency was measured by using different techniques such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical frequency modulation (EFM). Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-Ray analysis (EDX) were measured to affirm the presence of barrier film on the carbon steel surface by inspecting the surface morphologies and elemental composition of corrosion products.

Can One Novel Series of Transition Metal Complexes of Oxy-dianiline Schiff Base Afford Advances in Both Biological Inorganic Chemistry and Materials Science?

Little is known about biogenically synthesized Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) from Isodon rugosus. Synthesis of metal oxide NPs from essential oil producing medicinal plants results in less harmful side effects to the human population as compared to chemically synthesized NPs. In this article, we report biogenic synthesis of ZnONPs from in vitro derived plantlets and thidiazuron (TDZ) induced callus culture of Isodon rugosus. Synthesized NPs were characterized using UV-spectra, XRD, FTIR, SEM and EDX. Furthermore, the NPs were evaluated for their potential cytotoxic (against HepG2 cell line) and antimicrobial (against drug resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis, Bacillus subtilis, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) activities. Pure crystalline ZnONPs with hexagonal and triangular shapes were obtained as a result of callus extract (CE) and whole plant extract (WPE), respectively. ZnONPs showed potent cytotoxic and antimicrobial potential. The antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities of ZnONPs were found to be shape and surface bound phytochemicals dependent. CE mediated hexagonal ZnONPs showed superior anti-cancer and antimicrobial activities as compared to WPE mediated triangular shaped ZnONPs. It is concluded that biogenic ZnONPs have incredible potential as theranostic agents and can be adopted as useful drug delivery system in next generation treatment strategies.

Exploiting in vitro potential and characterization of surface modified Zinc oxide nanoparticles of Isodon rugosus extract: Their clinical potential towards HepG2 cell line and human pathogenic bacteria.

This review highlights in situ UV–vis–NIR range absorption spectroscopy in catalysis. A variety of experimental techniques identifying reaction mechanisms, kinetics, and structural properties are discussed. Stopped flow techniques, use of laser pulses, and use of experimental perturbations are demonstrated for in situ studies of enzymatic, homogeneous, heterogeneous, and photocatalysis. They access different time scales and are applicable to different reaction systems and catalyst types. In photocatalysis, femto- and nanosecond resolved measurements through transient absorption are discussed for tracking excited states. UV–vis–NIR absorption spectroscopies for structural characterization are demonstrated especially for Cu and Fe exchanged zeolites and metalloenzymes. This requires combining different spectroscopies. Combining magnetic circular dichroism and resonance Raman spectroscopy is especially powerful. A multitude of phenomena can be tracked on transition metal catalysts on various supports, including changes in oxidation state, adsorptions, reactions, support interactions, surface plasmon resonances, and band gaps. Measurements of oxidation states, oxygen vacancies, and band gaps are shown on heterogeneous catalysts, especially for electrocatalysis. UV–vis–NIR absorption is burdened by broad absorption bands. Advanced analysis techniques enable the tracking of coking reactions on acid zeolites despite convoluted spectra. The value of UV–vis–NIR absorption spectroscopy to catalyst characterization and mechanistic investigation is clear but could be expanded.

Pollen micro-morphological features have proven to be helpful for the plant taxonomists in the identification and classification of plants The aim of this study was to evaluate the palynological features of family Asteraceae and Lamiaceae from flora of District Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan using both scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and light microscope (LM) for their taxonomic importance Pollen of seven Asteraceous species belonging to four genera and four Lamiaceae species categorized into four genera were collected from different localities of research area The present research work provides detailed information of diverse morpho-palynological characters both qualitatively and quantitatively including pollen shape, type, diameter, P/E ratio, exine sculpturing and thickness Type of pollen in Asteraceae and Lamiaceae was ranged from tricolporate, tricolpate, trizonocolpate and hexazonocolpate The maximum polar diameter (4005 μm) and equatorial diameter (3766 μm) was observed in the Ajuga bracteoosa while minimum polar and equatorial diameter was noted in Isodon rugosus (1110 μm) and Erigeron canadensis (1320 μm) respectively Sculpturing of exine include; echinate, reticulate scabrate, aerolate, reticulate-verrucate, reticulate-scabrate, perforate and reticulate to perforate Exine thickness was examined maximum 150 μm in Helianthus tuberosus, whereas minimum in Conyza Canadensis (016 μm) The pollen fertility was found highest in C Canadensis (8333%) and lowest in Ajuga bracteosa (5806%) The observed pollen morphology has many valuable qualitative and quantitative attributes for the better understanding of their taxonomy and play significant role in correct identification

Recently, researchers are focusing on the synthesis of Schiff base complexes due to their promising biological activities and frequent use in the pharmaceuticals. In the present study we synthesized Schiff base of salicyldehyde and 2, 4-dinitrophenylhydrazine by modified method and its novel metal complexes with Cu (II), Zn (II), Co (II), Ni (II), Mn (II), V (II) and AU (IIII). For spectroscopic studies and characterization, UV-Vis and FT-IR spectroscopy were used. The Schiff base and its metals complexes were tested for antimicrobial, cytotoxic and antioxidant activities. Significant results are showed by the all synthesized complexes.
