Design of multi band triangular microstrip patch antenna with triangular split ring resonator for S band, C band and X band applications

Compact multi band and wide band antennas are having numerous applications in the communication operations. Design and implementation of these antennas require simple structure with considerable bandwidth and gain. A Novel Triple band antenna with defected ground structure is proposed in this paper to address the current communication system requirements. Simple square patch with corner truncated defected ground structure is used in this design to achieve the triple band characteristics. The proposed antenna is showing good Impedance, VSWR and radiation characteristics at resonating frequencies.

A Novel Triple Band Planar Microstrip Patch Antenna with Defected Ground Structure

Objective: To design a compact multiband antenna with planar metamaterial unit cell loading in the ground structure. Methods/Analysis: The metamaterial unit cells are placed on the ground structure of the proposed antenna with complimentary split-ring resonator slots. The proposed metamaterial antenna describes that an increase in the series-capacitance value may degrade to the half-wave length resonating frequency which will reduce the electrical dimension of the proposing antenna. The TM01 mode will be propagated around the complimentary split-ring resonator slot on the ground plane. Findings: Split ring resonator structure in the ground plane is serving as metamaterial and the permittivity of the substrate came down to negative with the current model. Multiband behaviour of the antenna at corresponding frequencies shows the change in permittivity. Novelty/Improvement: Novel structure of SRR on the ground plane is behaving like defected ground structure in one way and responsible for multiband characteristics. The proposed antenna occupying the dimensions of 40 x 35 x 1.6 mm with hybridization of TM10 and TM01 mode.

Novel Metamaterial Loaded Multiband Patch Antenna

Linear and circular antenna arrays need to be properly designed for optimization of electromagnetic problem. The design parameters are decided by the specific beam width using firefly algorithm, desired radiation patterns are to be studied for the reduction of beam width and side lobe level simultaneously based on multi objective approach.PSO is used for comparison based on simulation examples. Linear antennas are designed to obtain the source locations in position only synthesis based on FA. Patterns are synthesized using circular arrays to achieve minimum side lobe load and high directivity with constraint of beam width. Performance evaluation of bat, cuckoo search algorithms is level as compared to FA. This method is extended to concentric circular arrays with dipoles as radiating elements, FA is found to be most suitable for development of linear and circular antenna arrays .Procedure of thinning helps in reducing the cost of array designs. This method will find extensive usage in design of array pattern. PSO method of comparison can be supplemented with GA for better results.

Investigations on Array Pattern Synthesis using Nature Inspired Metaheuristic Algorithms

Background/Objectives: A new Double-Band monopole antenna is proposed in this paper. Four improved prototype of the proposed antenna is investigated. Method/Statistical Analysis: Final structure consists of a C-shaped slot on the patch and a spiral stub in ground plane to operate in two bands and enhance the bandwidth. Numerical simulation is performed for the antenna with Ansoft HFSS13.0, which is a kind of simulation software based on Finite Element Method and Rsoft Photonics CAD as photonic software. Findings: The influence of a photonic crystal substrate on the performance of a monopole antenna is simulated. Photonic crystal has been used as substrate to increase the bandwidth and gain. The antenna has two resonant frequencies in 5 GHz and 10.5 GHz with impedance bandwidth of 56% and 52.38% respectively. The gain of designed structure is about 3.4 dB. Applications/Improvements: The proposed antenna can operate in Wireless LAN in the U-NII-2/2e bands (channel 52 - 140, frequency range 5.260 - 5.725GHz) for first the band and X-band for second band.

Planar Double-Band Monopole Antenna with Photonic Crystal Structure

We propose a novel miniaturized dual-band microstrip patch antenna with improved gain for potential wireless applications. Two variants of the proposed configuration have been optimized and the analyzed results presented. The basic patch antenna is loaded with two pairs of Complementary Split Ring Resonators (CSRR's) on both sides of its non-radiating edges with different dimensions on both sides. The radiation performance of the first variant and its gain is further improved by etching four pairs of CSRR on the ground plane which controls the surface waves effectively. The proposed antenna shows an analyzed gain of 1.80 & 5.67 dB respectively in the two bands 1.68, 2.59 GHz. The antenna may find application in both the ISM (L band) and Wimax applications. In a second variant, the gain is further improved by employing a Reactive Impedance Surface (RIS). In this case, the analyzed gain is found to be 5.69 & 5.12 dB respectively at 2.05, 2.39 GHz. This antenna may be suitable for UMTS and ISM applications. The design dimensions of the patch, CSRR's and the RIS are obtained from expressions available in literature. Subsequently, simulation and optimization of the structures is carried out with Ansys HFSS ® ; a benchmarked E.M. simulator. The analyzed results are presented.
