GC bias affects genomic and metagenomic reconstructions, underrepresenting GC-poor organisms
Patrick Denis Browne,Patrick Denis Browne,Tue Kjærgaard Nielsen,Tue Kjærgaard Nielsen,Witold Kot,Witold Kot,Anni Aggerholm,M. Thomas P. Gilbert,Lara Puetz,Morten Rasmussen,Athanasios Zervas,Lars Hestbjerg Hansen,Lars Hestbjerg Hansen +12 more
TL;DR: Findings indicate potential sources of difficulty, arising from GC biases, in genome sequencing that could be pre-emptively addressed with methodological optimizations provided that the GC biases inherent to the relevant workflow are understood.

Athanasios Zervas,Marie Rønne Aggerbeck,Henrietta Allaga,Mustafa Guzel,M.J.A. Hendriks,IIona Jonuškienė,Orsolya Kedves,Ayse Kupeli,Janja Lamovšek,Pascal Mülner,Denise Munday,Sahin Namli,Hilal Samut,Ružica Tomičić,Zorica Tomičić,Filiz Yeni,Raida Zribi Zghal,Xingchen Zhao,Vincent Sanchis-Borja,Niels Bohse Hendriksen +19 more
- 18 Dec 2020
TL;DR: The phylogeny, identification, and characterization of 33 B. cereus sensu lato isolates originating from 17 agricultural soils from 11 countries were analyzed, revealing that different pathotypes exist and that it is possible to differentiate between them by comparing the percent identity of proteins potentially involved in pathogenicity.

TL;DR: In this paper, preservation bioaugmentation consortium in gel (BioG), fresh consortium in liquid medium (BioL), woodchip biochar (BioC), and straw biochar(BS) were used to improve the performance of ammonia-stressed AD reactors.

Ex-situ biogas upgrading in thermophilic up-flow reactors: The effect of different gas diffusers and gas retention times.
Parisa Ghofrani-Isfahani,Panagiotis Tsapekos,Maria Peprah,Panagiotis Kougias,Xinyu Zhu,Adam Kovalovszki,Athanasios Zervas,Xiao Zha,Carsten S. Jacobsen,Irini Angelidaki +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, four different types of ceramic gas distributors (Al2O3 of 1.2μm and SiC of 0.5, 7 and 14μm) were evaluated to increase biomethane formation during ex-situ biogas upgrading process.

Ex-situ biogas upgrading in thermophilic trickle bed reactors packed with micro-porous packing materials.
Parisa Ghofrani-Isfahani,Panagiotis Tsapekos,Maria Peprah,Panagiotis Kougias,Athanasios Zervas,Xinyu Zhu,Ziyi Yang,Carsten S. Jacobsen,Irini Angelidaki +8 more
TL;DR: In this article , two thermophilic trickle bed reactors (TBRs) were packed with different packing densities with polyurethane foam (PUF) and their performance under different retention times were evaluated during ex-situ biogas upgrading process.
