Novel tetraalkyl piperidine radical containing polytriazine compounds are produced by reacting a dihalogen-triazine with a bifunctional compound containing amine, alcohol, mercaptan or phenol groups at least one of the bifunctional compounds containing a tetraalkyl piperidine radical. The compounds are valuable light stabilizers for synthetic polymers, particularly polyolefin in the form of fibers or films.

Halogen-free self-extinguishing oligomeric or polymeric compounds derived from 1, 3, 5-triazine, having the general formula I wherein or a heterocyclic radical containing in the ring at least one nitrogen atom which radical is linked to the triazine ring through one of such nitrogen atoms, R2 is alkyl or cycloalkyl, R1 is a divalent radical of piperazine of the formula or a divalent radical of the type or R2 is alkyl or cycloalkyl, n is an integer from 2 to 30, extremes included, m is an integer from 2 to 6, extremes included, p is an integer from 2 to 12 extremes included, and X1=OH, NH2 or X, wherein X1 and X may be the same or different, X2 is a hydrogen or an C1-C4 alkyl group, and a solvent-free process for the production of the compounds of Formula I as well as the use of the self-extinguishing oligomeric or polymeric compounds as flame retardants and light stabilizers in thermoplastic polymers such as polypropylene or regenerated cellulose or polyester.

Water-soluble triazine-nucleated polymeric quaternary ammonium compounds, which are prepared by the interaction of 2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine with one molecular proportion of an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diamine containing at least one tertiary nitrogen atom capable of being quaternized to effect polymerization and then with a second molecular equivalent of the same diamine or a different amine, are useful as mordants for water-soluble dyestuffs on cellulosic fibers; as fixing agents for pigments on cellulosic fibers; as softening agents for fibers; and as surface active agents for effecting aqueous dispersions of pigments and of colorless dyestuff precursors for carbonless duplicating systems.

Novel polymeric compounds, processes and methods of use

Disclosed are epoxy-azido compounds of the formula ##EQU1## WHERE R is a polyvalent organic radical, R' is a hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, or aralkyl radical, A is ##EQU2## and n and m are integers from 1 to 100. Also disclosed is the use of said epoxy-azido compounds in modifying polymers, cross-linking polymers, and adhering polymers to certain substrates, e.g. glass and other polymers.
