Ultra-sensitive and high-throughput CRISPR-p owered COVID-19 diagnosis.
Zhen Huang,Di Tian,Yang Liu,Zhen Lin,Christopher J. Lyon,Weihua Lai,Dahlene N. Fusco,Arnaud Drouin,Xiao-Ming Yin,Tony Y. Hu,Bo Ning +10 more
TL;DR: This assay utilizes a custom CRISPR Cas12a/gRNA complex and a fluorescent probe to amplify target amplicons produced by standard RT-PCR or isothermal recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) to allow sensitive detection at sites not equipped with real-time PCR systems required for qPCR diagnostics.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that superspreading during large-scale events played a key role during the early outbreak in the U.S. and can greatly accelerate epidemics.

TL;DR: In this article, the emergence of the early COVID-19 epidemic in the United States (U.S.) went largely undetected, due to a lack of adequate testing and mitigation efforts.
Genomic Signatures of SARS-CoV-2 Associated with Patient Mortality.
TL;DR: In this article, the authors tested for associations between SARS-CoV-2 genomic variants from an international cohort of 2508 patients and mortality rates and found that three SNPs remained associated with mortality in a generalized linear model (GLM) that also included patient age, sex, geographic region, and month of sample collection.

Using Prenatal Blood Samples to Evaluate COVID-19 Rapid Serologic Tests Specificity.
Jackeline Alger,Maria Luisa Cafferata,Tito Alvarado,Alvaro Ciganda,A. Corrales,Hans Desale,Arnaud Drouin,Dahlene N. Fusco,Jorge García,Luz Gibbons,Emily W. Harville,Wendy Lopez,Ivette Lorenzana,Fausto Muñoz-Lara,Elsa Palou,Eduardo Retes,Manuel Sierra,Candela Stella,Xu Xiong,Lysien I. Zambrano,Pierre Buekens +20 more
TL;DR: Blood specimens from sentinel prenatal clinics provide an opportunity to validate serologic tests with population-based samples and COVID-19 serologic rapid diagnostic tests are of variable specificity.
