Combined effect of CYP1A1 inducibility and GSTM1 polymorphism on histological type of lung cancer
Sisko Anttila,Ari Hirvonen,Kirsti Husgafvel-Pursiainen,Antti Karjalainen,Tuula Nurminen,Harri Vainio +5 more
TL;DR: In patients with inducible CYP1A1, the expressing GSTM1 gene appeared to have a protective effect against contracting bronchial lung cancer, since 88% (14/16) of the lung tumours in this patient group were peripheral, whereas almost equal numbers of peripheral andBronchial tumours were observed in those patients lacking the gene.

Sister chromatid exchanges and micronuclei in peripheral lymphocytes of shoe factory workers exposed to solvents
M. Pitarque,Alexander Vaglenov,Maria Nosko,Sonya Pavlova,Vera Petkova,Ari Hirvonen,Amadeu Creus,Hannu Norppa,Ricard Marcos +8 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the shoe factory workers have experienced genotoxic exposure, which is manifest as an increase in the frequency of MN, but not of SCEs, in peripheral lymphocytes.

Exposure to 2,4- and 2,6-toluene diisocyanate (TDI) during production of flexible foam: determination of airborne TDI and urinary 2,4- and 2,6-toluenediamine (TDA)
TL;DR: Urinalysis of TDA is proposed as a practical method for assessing personal exposures in workers exposed intermittently to TDI and there was a trend for linear correlation between urinary TDA concentration and the product of airborne TDI concentration and sampling time.

Influence of DNA repair gene polymorphisms on the yield of chromosomal aberrations.
Anne Kiuru,Carita Lindholm,Iiris Heilimo,Marcello Ceppi,Koivistoinen A,Taina Ilus,Ari Hirvonen,Hannu Norppa,Sisko Salomaa +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the influence of DNA repair gene polymorphisms on the frequency of chromosomal aberrations (CAs) analyzed in peripheral lymphocytes, using the fluorescence in situ hybridization technique.

PCR-based CYP2D6 genotyping for Finnish lung cancer patients.
Ari Hirvonen,Kirsti Husgafvel-Pursiainen,Sisko Anttila,Antti Karjalainen,Olavi Pelkonen,Harri Vainio +5 more
TL;DR: The hypothesis that there is an increased risk of lung cancer for individuals who are extensive metabolizers of debrisoquine is supported.
