Correlation coefficient and path analysis were studied using parents (female VRO - 6 and male AOL - 09 – 02), their F1 and F2 generations. Observations were recorded on thirteen yield and its contributing characters. Among them, fruit yield/plant exhibited positive and highly significant correlation with number of fruits/plant, plant height at final harvest, fruit weight, number of branches/plant, fruit girth, number of seeds/fruit, internodal length, and 100 seed weight. Path coefficient analysis revealed that number of fruits/plant, fruit weight, days to first picking, internodal length, 100 seed weight and fruit length recorded positive direct effect on fruit yield/plant.

Correlation and path analysis studies in okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench)

Farmers and plant breeders are often faced with the problem of selecting the best genotypes of okra as a result of lack of adequate knowledge of association among yield and its component characters which has led to the inefficiency of crop improvement. Efficient selection in any breeding programme will not only depend on yield alone but on yield together with other yield components. Based on this fact, this research was carried out on forty genotypes of okra to determine the association of different agronomic characters with pod yield and their direct and indirect effects on pod yield so as to select the best genotype for further breeding work. The seed of each genotype was sown in a plot laid out in randomised complete block design with three replications, and data were collected on fourteen agronomic characters and analysed. Pod yield per plant had highly significant and positive genotypic and phenotypic correlations with plant height, number of leaves, petiole length, internode length, plant height at flowering, peduncle length, fruit length, fruit diameter, number of seeds and number of pods, indicating that pod yield in okra could be a function of these traits. Highly significant, negative genotypic and phenotypic correlations were observed for pod yield per plant with days to 50% flowering and days to maturity, suggesting that early flowering and maturity are desirable traits for improved productivity in okra. Path coefficient analysis revealed that number of pod per plant had the highest positive direct effect on pod yield per plant with its largest indirect effect with days to 50% flowering and reduction in days to maturity. Due to close associations among these traits, they could be used as basis of selection when high yield is the breeding objective.

Correlation and Path Coefficient Analysis of Fruit Yield Attributes in Forty Genotypes of Okra ( Abelmoschus esculentus )

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) a member of Solanaceae family, is one of the most important vegetable crops grown widely all over the world. It is the most popular cultivated and versatile garden vegetable grown in the world (Kumar et al., 2013). It is well adapted to wide range of soils and climates and is grown from the tropics to the temperate areas. Its fruits are used in different food preparations and also preserved in different forms. Ripe fresh tomato fruit is consumed as salad and also utilized in the preparation of processed products such as puree, paste, powder, ketchup, sauce, soup and canned whole fruits. Unripe green fruits are used for preparation of pickles and chutney. Tomatoes are important source of lycopene (an antioxidant), ascorbic acid and ß-carotene and valued for their colour and flavour. Lycopene is treasured for its anticancer attribute.

Assessment of Tomato Hybrids for Yield and Quality Attributes under Protected Environment

Nitrogen-doped carbon nanodots (CNDs) were synthesized and utilized as sensing probes to detect different anions and metallic ions within aqueous solutions. The pristine CNDs were developed through a one-pot hydrothermal synthesis. o-Phenylenediamine was used as the precursor. A similar hydrothermal synthesis technique in the presence of polyethylene glycol (PEG) was adopted to form the PEG-coated CND clusters (CND-100k). Through photoluminescence (PL) quenching, both CND and PEG-coated CND suspensions display ultra-high sensitivity and selectivity towards HSO4− anions (Stern–Volmer quenching constant (KSV) value: 0.021 ppm−1 for CND and 0.062 ppm−1 for CND-100k) with an ultra-low detection limit (LOD value: 0.57 ppm for the CND and 0.19 ppm for CND-100k) in the liquid phase. The quenching mechanism of N-doped CNDs towards HSO4− ions involves forming the bidentate as well as the monodentate hydrogen bonding with the sulfate anionic moieties. The detection mechanism of metallic ions analyzed through the Stern–Volmer formulation reveals that the CND suspension is well suited for the detection of Fe3+ (KSV value: 0.043 ppm−1) and Fe2+ (KSV value: 0.0191 ppm−1) ions, whereas Hg2+ (KSV value: 0.078 ppm−1) sensing can be precisely performed by the PEG-coated CND clusters. Accordingly, the CND suspensions developed in this work can be employed as high-performance PL probes for detecting various anions and metallic ions in the liquid phase.

Abstract. Limbongan YL. 2023. Interrelationship between number of flowers, fruits, and cucumber production (Cucumis sativus) grown on a mixture of soil and chicken manure. Biodiversitas 24: 3448-3453. This study aimed to determine the effect on the relationship between the number of flowers, fruits formed and the production of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) in chicken manure-supplemented soil. The research was conducted from June to August 2022 in Tikala Village, Tikala Sub-district, North Toraja District, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, at an altitude of 866.9 m above sea level with climate type B (Schmidt and Ferguson) and was arranged in a randomized complete block design (RCBD). The treatment used chicken manure at five levels, namely, control, 100 g, 200 g, 300 g, and 400 g chicken manure per plant. The results showed that the application of chicken manure at different doses gave different responses to the growth and production of cucumbers. A dose of 400 g/plant is the best treatment to increase the number of flowers, number of fruits, size, and production of the fruit up to 54 days after planting, with a fruit weight of 2.69 kg per plot or 17.93-ton ha?1. The number of flowers, number of fruits, fruit diameter, and fruit length had linear responses and a significant positive correlation with the production of cucumbers.

Present investigation was carried out at AICRP on Vegetable Crops, OUAT, Bhubaneswar, Odisha to assess the value and magnitude of genetic divergence among the genotypes using Mahalanobis D 2 statistics. About fifty five genotypes were evaluated for 17 growth, yield and quality traits which were grouped into nineteen clusters. Cluster V topped in having maximum of 11 genotypes
