Colossal barocaloric effects near room temperature in plastic crystals of neopentylglycol
Pol Lloveras,Araceli Aznar,Maria Barrio,Philippe Négrier,Catalin Popescu,Antoni Planes,Lluís Mañosa,Enric Stern-Taulats,Alex Avramenko,Neil D. Mathur,Xavier Moya,Josep-Lluís Tamarit +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that plastic crystals of neopentylglycol (CH3)2C(CH2OH)2 display unprecedentedly large pressure-driven thermal changes near room temperature due to molecular reconfiguration, and these changes are comparable with those exploited commercially in hydrofluorocarbons.
Reversible and irreversible colossal barocaloric effects in plastic crystals
Araceli Aznar,Pol Lloveras,Maria Barrio,Philippe Négrier,Antoni Planes,Lluís Mañosa,Neil D. Mathur,Xavier Moya,Josep-Lluís Tamarit +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the reversible barocaloric response of four plastic crystals derived from neopentane [C(CH3)4] was determined, and the minimum pressure needed to achieve reversible effects, prev, for each compound was determined using the quasi-direct method.
Giant and Reversible Inverse Barocaloric Effects near Room Temperature in Ferromagnetic MnCoGeB0.03
Araceli Aznar,Pol Lloveras,Pol Lloveras,Jiyeob Kim,Enric Stern-Taulats,Maria Barrio,Josep-Lluís Tamarit,C.F. Sánchez-Valdés,Jose Luis Sanchez Llamazares,Neil D. Mathur,Xavier Moya +10 more
TL;DR: Moderate changes of hydrostatic pressure are used to drive giant and reversible inverse barocaloric effects near room temperature in the notoriously brittle magnetocaloric material MnCoGeB0.03.
Giant and Reversible Barocaloric Effect in Trinuclear Spin-Crossover Complex Fe 3 (bntrz) 6 (tcnset) 6 .
Michela Romanini,YiXu Wang,YiXu Wang,Kübra Gürpinar,Gladys Ornelas,Pol Lloveras,Yan Zhang,Wenkai Zheng,Maria Barrio,Araceli Aznar,Adrià Gràcia-Condal,Baris Emre,Orhan Atakol,Catalin Popescu,Hu Zhang,Yi Long,Luis Balicas,Josep-Lluís Tamarit,Antoni Planes,Michael Shatruk,Lluís Mañosa +20 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a giant barocaloric effect (BCE) in a molecular material Fe3 (bntrz)6 (tcnset)6 is reported, where the crystal structure of FBT contains a trinuclear transition metal complex that undergoes an abrupt spin-state switching between the state in which all three FeII centers are in the high-spin (S ǫ 2) electronic configuration and the state of which all of them are in a low-spin configuration.
Colossal barocaloric effects near room temperature in plastic crystals of neopentylglycol
Pol Lloveras,Araceli Aznar,Maria Barrio,Ph. Negrier,Catalin Popescu,Antoni Planes,Lluís Mañosa,Enric Stern-Taulats,A. Avramenko,Neil D. Mathur,Xavier Moya,J. Ll. Tamarit +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that plastic crystals of neopentylglycol (CH3)2C(CH2OH)2 display extremely large pressure-driven thermal changes near room temperature due to molecular reconfiguration, that these changes outperform those observed in any type of caloric material, and these changes are comparable with those exploited commercially in hydrofluorocarbons.
